retirement gift to myself

I am retiring soon and thought of giving myself a gift. The gift might be a Savage 12 LRPV in 22-250. Does anyone have experience with this gun and caliber. I shoot off a bench at 100 yards and am looking for under 3/4 groups. Would it be possible with this? Thanks for the input.

Can't tell you about that model. Of course, the new Savages have a reputation for accuracy, and my 116 doesn't disappoint. I do load and shoot 22-250 out of a Remington 700. It gives 1/2" groups with the right load of 40 Noslers or 55 Sierras.

If I may ask, why this round? It's kind of a waste of powder at short range, and there are better 100 yard tack drivers.

If you hand load, that gun should do what you want. Factory loads will probably not be as accurate.

Model 12 LPV in .22-250 with a 1:12 twist has averaged 0.402 for 152 three round hand load groups, mostly with 52 grain bullets (Berger and Nosler) and 53 grain SMKs with N140 or Reloader 15 powder.

It is a great shooting rifle.
The best 25 loads average 0.354. Best 10 loads average 0.339.
You should have no problem averaging under .75 inches at 100 yards.

Can't give you factory data since good match ammo is not readily available for a .22-250.

By comparison, a Remington 700 .22-250 with a 1:14 twist 0.482 for 1162 groups from 35 grains to 55 grains. It also likes 52-53 grain bullets.
With the same 52 and 53 grain bullets and powders, it averaged 0.413 for 576 groups of 52 and 53 grain bullets with N140 and Reloader 15 powder over a wide range of loads.

The Rem 700 .22-250 is also a good shooter and either would meet your criteria for a 22-250.
