WC844 powder finicky ?
This is the first time I've loaded with this powder I just bought from Wideners and I just can't find an accurate load with it. I'm loading 50, 53, 55 gr bullets, I've tried different primers and both AR's are accurate with other loads. Anyone else having difficulty with this lot of Widener's WC844 powder? It seems slower than H335 ???

I started loading 223 with H-335. I bought an 8 pound bottle of WC-844 and use the same load as H-335 and get the same accuracy. If I do my part I can shoot MOA or a little under at 100 yards with 55 grain Hornady bulk FMJBT. I am shooting them out od a Stock Rock River 16" AR.

I load .308 with 147gr FMJBT surplus "pulldown" bullets with 39 grs. 844 for a very mild ((2400 fps) and VERY accurate range/practive load.
I get sub MOA in my favorite bolt action and 2 MOA with a Rem. Pump 7600P with iron sights. My 'go to' load for 223 is 24 grs 844 with 52 gr bullets. Far more accurate than I can hold the gun. I may buy a 40 pound keg for long term future use. |

I load WC844 about 24.5 gr with 55 gr FMJ bullets for a good plinking load in my ARs. You do know the 55 gr FMJ is sure not the most accurate bullet around, right? Not made for match work, but OK for casual shooting.

WC844
I am working through an 8 lber from Wideners. I am finding it very consistent, accurate across load work ups, and no pressure signs or surprises. I will say though that I have noticed a lot of HEAT in my barrels. I tried to do some comparison with some 308 loads with Accurate Data 2330-C (2460), but the heat was about the same.
