Need more input about welding case hardened M1A SPRINGFIELD RECEIVER have been told by smith enterprise that they can weld rear lug on gun no problem been doing it for years and can re-case harden, been told by fulton never to weld case hardened receiver, can crack.

Would prefer to convert my standard rifle, instead of buying super match. Will glass bed and add apropriate barrel, trigger and other items needed.

If the weld is in a non-critical area, and a proper heat sink is used so as to minimalize the effects, then it should pose no problem...So says my instructor (retired engineer) who had us fabricate our own lugs and weld them on.
