Stippling on your polymer handguns

So let's see them...

This is my EDC now. Completely factory with an exception of the stippling and night sights.

Where else should I stipple? Does it even look good? It was my first time.

I personally don't like they way stippling looks in general. However, within the realm of how stippling can come out, I'd say it looks good. You'll have to update us with the utility of the stippling the underside of the trigger guard. It seems like a good place for some extra texture.

Yeah. I never liked it much either. Until I was shooting in the rain. Wasn't like some major epiphany. It's not a need. But why not? So I tried it out on a Glock of mine lol. Yeah...I put it on the three places I felt I'd need/like it. Feels great. Can't wait to shoot it. On the left side, my thumb goes there when I shoot. On the right. My finger when it's off the trigger of course, we know what's happening there.

I recall seeing a few stippling jobs on this forum.

I've thought about having a reduction and some stippling done on my 34, but I just can't bring myself to do it.

This reminds me of improving on those, stock, late 1950s Chevrolets in High School Auto shop.

You don't want my advice. 70 years ago I'd have warned you not to put install indoor plumming. "... the outhouse stopped working or what?''

IDPA considerations aside, that looks like a very amateur job.

Like you asked me to take a soldering iron to your handgun...which would be dumb.

I think it looks ok. If it helps you out that's all that matters. I did it to my Taurus TCP and it works fantastic. I wasn't as worried about doing it to that because it's a pretty inexpensive gun. Just be sure not to go too far up the backstrap. I saw a guy did the underside of the beavertail area, I can only imagine how it would tear up the tender web of the thumb.

I thought about doing it to my XD9 but I don't think I have the balls for that. I got some skate board deck tape, just haven't gotten around to putting it on.

After seeing the multitudes of after-market modifications on pistols that IDPA still considers stock, this home stippled Glock 19 should fit right in.

Polymers can also be checkered with a checkering file for neat work. They can also be carved like my Benelli with it's duck and squirrel !!

Did that after getting snide remarks from shooters at the range who had fancy engraved guns !

each to their own, I don't care for it myself but that is just my subjective opinion. As far as IDPA rules it moves you from SSP to ESP, no biggie.

Ive done about half a dozen of my Glocks now, and plan on doing a couple more now that winter lay off is here. The difference between guns that have it and guns that dont, is like night and day. Once youve shot one that has been done, you will instantly see its value.

Looks tend to be in the eye of the beholder. If you dont like the looks prior to actually using a gun that has been stippled, your thoughts on appearance may change, or at least dissipate, after you realize the functionality of it. It may even still look ugly, but youll never go back.

Totally agree with AK103K.
It's ugly till you shoot a gun with it either in the rain or heat with sweaty hands. Then it becomes a beautiful thing.

Shuler, are you telling me you did that golf ball dimple design yourself?
If so, my hats off to you Sir. It looks like the best I have ever seen.
I stayed a little conservative with the amount of stippling on my TCP. A couple people who are not familiar with the TCP thought it was from the factory like that (made me a little proud...).

Youre done for now!

Stippling is like eating tater chips, once you start, its hard to stop. Looks like youre well on your way to addiction.

I start mine like youve done, melt down all the molded in bumps/checkering, and then do the outline, and then the whole thing within it. I also take a file to the tip, and make it a sharp point. It seems to give me a little more control on what texture I get.
