Pellet rifles in Michigan

Alright, so I have a confusing issue here. Do pellet rifles, in Michigan, count as firearms? From the state police website, it appears that pellet pistols do, but I can't find anything on rifles.

I know that I bought a pellet rifle at bass pro a few months ago without issue. No background check.

Pellet pistols on the other hand (if they have a rifled barrel) require a handgun purchase permit.
