New Yorkers: Sign Senator Marchione's Petition to Repeal NY's Ban

I know the forum says no posting of petitions but since this is directly from a senator I figured it was safe.

Take a minute to sign Senator Marchione's petition to repeal Gov. Cuomo's new legislation. It's already up to 30,000 according to the news.

Although we New Yorkers welcome the sympathy from other state residents, this petition should only be signed by those residing in the state to prevent clutter.

http://www.nysenate.gov/webform/stan...leen-marchione
Our ban includes (to name a few):

-All magazines of 8+ rounds are illegal (nearly all semi auto pistols are illegal now)
-Possesssion of a magazine of more than 10 round capacity (legally purchased pre-1994 mags) is illegal.
-Possession of a non-grandfathered 10 round mag is illegal. All existing 10 round mags are fine but cannot be loaded with more than 7 rounds.
-AR's and other "assault weapons" are restricted to one evil feature including having a pistol grip, making all AR's and many pistols "assault weapons," with grandfathered ones subjected to a one year registration deadline with the state police. Same goes for handguns I believe.
-NICS checks on all ammo sales
-Private firearm transfers illegal --> must go through FFL
-Online ordering of ammo or their components (brass, powder, etc.) is illegal
-Pistol permits are to be recertified every 5 years.

If there is another post on this, please delete mine. If not, I'd love to see this stickied.

This is actually a petition that may go somewhere. Initiated by a NY State Senator, on her official web page, and includes all the correct information for an electronic signature.

This is one that all NY gunnies need to sign.

Nothing may happen with this, but the State needs to know there a lot of ticked off constituents. If the numbers are really big, it will worry the incumbents.

Don't live in NY but I signed it anyway. I support her and repeal of the new laws.

If you don't live in NY State, your signature will mean nothing. It simply will clutter the process.

I was thinking about signing it at first. Could the OP mention that right near the link to avoid confusion?

I wasn't sure if only in-staters mattered for it. I know they'd pull more weight at least.

I'll go ahead and edit it.

excelerater? You don't live in NY. All you've done is to complicate the petition process.

Didn't you read the thread?

I don't live there, & won't sign the petition. I will, however, stop in at this thread long enough to say, "Good luck, NY!"

I signed but I'm with Brian, leaving NY as soon as I retire. This place has gotten out of control.

Brian,

Please consider Ohio around the Lancaster area. We could surely use another pro-gunner. Especially one that can make a 'killa' pizza.

Long Island resident and I signed.

So who is going to pay for the background check with every ammo purchase?

I see group road trips or PA.

We have no ammo here. I can't even find a box of .30-30 for my hunting rifle. I live close to about 30 gun shops and none of them have any ammo, primers, powder, brass, or bullets.

For us folks that live out of state it would be far better to put our money up rather than a useless out of state signature.

WE ALL SAY WE WANT TO HELP!
But when the rubber meets the road most are only giving lip service.

WANT TO REALLY HELP?
Give her $10 toward her reelection campaign.

WE NEED FOLKS LIKE HER IN OFFICE IN LIBERAL STATES!

We can help elect constitutionists with our hard earned dollars.

I pleage $10

EDIT:
I could not send money via her site. So I asked her for a link to do so.

Please contact her and ask the same. Once a few liberal states fall, others can follow. If liberal representatives see donations from others states, they pucker up quick.

[email protected]

Ask her for a way to donate $10. I could be the best money you'll spend. I live in Texas. I feel faily safe for now. So ten bucks to an out of state constitution loving leader is money well spent.

I signed up and will change party affiliation from democrat to republican.

This new law will not influence mentally ill or criminals. Will they be concerned about how many rounds are in a mag ? How did the "king" decide on 7 ?

Another restriction on law abiding, sane citizens

Thanks

Thanks. Just signed it, forwarded on and posted to Facebook. I'm really upset about this. I have a NYS pistol permit and a P-14 45 (with 14 round magazines). They're trying to turn me into a criminal.

Letter to NY Politicians

Here is a letter I wrote a couple weeks ago to Governor Cuomo and other politicians (modified for their position). You can use it for your own use if you live in NY.

Dear Governor:
My wife and I along with our children and both our families grew up in and currently live in New York. We enjoy the Adirondacks and surrounding area with regard to our outdoor hobbies but hopefully within the next couple years my wife and I will be moving out of Rockland County and New York and for more reasons than anyone should have. With the New York Assembly and Senate convening very soon there is significant talk that gun control in NY will be an important topic. I thought I would take this opportunity to provide you some of the reasons, and these are just a few, of why we plan on moving out of New York and encourage others to do so, though many don’t need our encouragement.

·Rockland has many issues in which some are unique and are not the scope of this letter (Ramapo School District, poor county property deals, etc...).

·One issue is the county’s financial status whose Moody’s bond rating is currently Baa3 (1), so due to Rockland’s poor financial status and improper management the residents are taxed beyond tolerable, for example the tax on new vehicle registrations and the “Energy Use” tax.

·Some of New York’s highest paid public servants are in Rockland including a Police Chief who is paid more than the New York City Police Chief (2, 3). This includes police departments who are amongst the highest paid in the state which has caused an increase in taxes.

·NY residents bear the highest tax burden in the US (as of 2010 data) (4).

·Many of the highest property taxes are located in NY; Westchester #1, Nassau #2, Rockland #4, Putnam #11, Suffolk #12 (as of 2010 data)(5).

·NY State ranks #38 (of the highest) in unemployment with a rate of 8.3% (6).

·A state deficit which could reach one billion (7).

·The state is number one in air pollution (8).

·There is an estimate of 630,000 unauthorized immigrants in New York which in turn is a tax burden to property tax payers (9, 10).

Keep in mind this is a short list and gathered in only one hour of research. In gathering this information we have also found that according to the FBI, 8.5 times as many people are murdered with knives, blunt objects and bare hands than with a firearm (11). The fact that as gun laws improve in favor of the law abiding citizen crime rates have fallen (12). As a father, husband and home owner I cannot get over a couple murders which occurred near our home, one of a wife and mother and the other of a beloved daughter and teacher (13, 14). In both these horrifying murders the offender did not use a firearm to commit the crime but my wife and I cannot get past what if either of the victims possessed one to defend their lives.

The state of New York continues to make it difficult for residents to defend themselves as many hand held self-defense items are illegal to own, obtain or illegal to ship to NY State residents. With the increase in taxes and budget cuts we can foresee a reduction in police staff and their hours which will reduce the security provided by our police officers. There are statistics with regard to when a crime is being committed and police response time but it’s not in favor of the victim and this letter is getting long enough.

Governor, with all due respect given the list provided above and other facts we believe you, the senate and other elected officials have more important issues to resolve than firearms and that of law abiding citizens. I know the issues I listed are difficult to address but that’s why you are in your elected position but restricting, punishing and putting in the spotlight law abiding citizens and their firearms is petty and just shows that government would rather address the innocent and law abiding than the real issues.

And by the way, having to write this letter is another reason why we are leaving.

Sincerely,

Her stance is an encouragement. Those of you living in states without crazy gun restrictions are blessed. In Illinois, gun owners live under the threat of hostile gun legislation all the time. We are looking to move to TN or AL.

Signed. The 7 round rule and background check for ammo sales are the most egregious parts, but a lot of the rest of it stinks too.
Those parts amount to a de facto ban on a lot of handguns, and what retailer will sell a $20 box of ammo when they have to do a 20 to 30 minute background check?
Someone tried to argue with me that magazines will just need a simple plug, like a shotgun, but that is not true, the modification must be permanent.

I do live in the state, but I don't think there's a snowball's chance in an oven of this ban being repealed. The Republicans in the state legislature even passed it. For me, the most egregious part is the ban on the AR-15. I could live with the magazine limitations and the background checks for ammunition and so forth. Yeah it's a pain, but I mean nothing for the most part would be banned, they would just be making it more difficult to acquire certain things. Heck, I could live with a limitation of five-round magazines.

But actually banning the AR-15 I really dislike. I was planning to buy one as only recently I'd gotten into guns, but didn't have the $$$. I guess now I will just be limited to a Ruger Mini-14, Springfield M1A, and shotgun. Signed the petition though.

Just read on msnbc that shrinks will be held liable for not reporting someone who has violent thoughts. Physicians who perform unnecessary tests to protect themselves from a lawsuit is a good analogy. That should work real well as those who need help will not seek it for fear of investigation and a blot on their medical record. Talk about a bureaucratic mess that will be impossible and expensive to enforce.

A snippet: "New York’s expanded gun law signed by Cuomo on January 15 goes further than most state laws in that it requires mental health professionals to report any person considered “likely to engage in conduct that would result in serious harm to self or others” to local health officials. Those officials would be authorized to report that person to law enforcement, which could seize the person’s firearms."

I feel sorry for all the PTSD guys coming back from overseas, and the SWAT teams that will be needed as these guys barricade themselves in their houses.
