My kingdom for a can of Unique

Can't find pistol powder anywhere.
Anybody got a .45ACP recipe using 4350 or reloader 7?

If you had a princess to sweeten the kingdom deal, well someone might be able to produce a pound of Unique.

Looking at Powder Valley, I see several powders that would work for 45 that are available.

I see a couple @ Wideners that will work too.

The stuff is out there, you just have to look beyond Unique and Bullseye.

I don't know know here you are located, but around here, everybody has unsold Green Dot around. Nobody seems to want it though my old Speer manuals list lots of .45ACP loads for it. Also, more popular Red Dot has been relatively to find, though you might have to get the large bottle.

I was excited to see one of our local stores has both Unique and Bullseye two days ago.

If you lived around me in NC I'd give you a new lb of Unique. I've had it with that stuff and won't use it any more.

One cool thing about loading .45 ACP is that a lot of powder that is produced and sold in bulk to clay target shooters, will work well in .45.

Like has been mentioned here earlier, Green Dot and Red Dot is available.

You can also use the popular clay shooter powders: Titegroup, Titewad, Clays, 700X, WST, and WSF.

I have a pal who loaded Unique for his .45 single stack competition for years. During the '08 panic he ran out and I provided him with some Clays. He never switched back to Unique. Now when I buy an 8 pounder for my clay target reloading he splits it with me.

Brutus, if you're willing to consider something else, I can recommend a powder that's just as "universal" as Unique and works well for loading the .45 ACP as well as any other handgun cartridge from .380 up to the .454 Casull. Ramshot True Blue is a very dense and fine grained ball-type powder that meters exceptionally, probably contributing to its excellent ballistic uniformity with any cartridge it's loaded with. For one .45 ACP powder that will cover everything from light cast lead bullet loads to jacketed bullet loads that will slightly exceed factory level velocity, I use ZIP. It's similar in burn rate to W231/HP38, but gives better performance potential and burns cleaner. I also use Silhouette for +P velocity level loads without exceeding the standard pressure for the .45 ACP at 21,000 PSI. Not +P. Where others use and recommend Unique as one powder for everything, I'd recommend True Blue. It will meter night and day better than Unique while providing very uniform ballistics.

I don't use Unique but I know where I can get all anyone would want, at least for the last few months anyway. In Kansas.

I have a pound of Unique. Still has a lot of dust on the bottle. If you lived next door, I'd hand it to you.

It is a versatile powder that works with a lot of different cartridges...but it is not an easy powder to drop consistently....and for a lot of us, is a hand-dip-only powder, which makes it a small volume powder.

Read up--tons of threads on this subject.

If you are loading .45acp, there are lots of other (better) choices. Start with W231 and Bullseye. If you can't find those, look for Green Dot.

I ran into an estate sale a couple years back and bought about 13 lbs. of Green Dot (plus a bunch of 1# cans of other powders). I'm still loading .45acp 200 gr SWCs with Green Dot...and I have loaded a bunch of .45LC 255gr SWCs as well.

Just found one can of Unique (all they had) and grabbed it the other day. Had not seen any in quite some time. BTW all I use is Unique in .44Spec and .44Mag.... I don't have the metering problem some folks seem to have.... Now if only Green Dot would get back in stock as down to my last 2# .

This latest ObamaScare might be the best thing that ever happened to you reloading-wise. Force you to try some of the much better powders available.

Little ironic you use "universal"in your response and then don't mention it

Universal, aka Universal Clays, works great in most handguns from 32 to 45. If Unique works, Universal does as well and is a lot cleaner than either Unique or Red Dot. Also works real well in 20 and 28 gauge

I didn't mention it because like Unique, Universal is an extruded flake powder. It burns cleaner than Unique and its smaller physical size will give better metering. True Blue is a dense ball powder that meters as well or better than any powder available today and provides excellent ballistic uniformity in every handgun cartridge it can be used in; which is pretty much all of 'em. It also has better pressure stability in high pressure cartridges.

That's what ****** me off! I can buy all the Unique I want and I won't use it anymore, but True Blue is no where to be found where I live. I would love to be able to buy Ramshot powder here.

Just ordered 8 pounds of Unique from these folks. We'll see how it goes. They've got some left.
