I hope I have this right now: Apology threads are appropriate here in this forum - I want to apologize for the minor commotion re guns-n-babes, etc. on "Handguns & Pistolcraft". Though I stick by the basic content of my "Fowl" post (I know, you guys make the rules, which is fine, I just want my sentiment noted for the record), - I suppose the objection, er, discussion thread belongs here not there - also Rob, I didn't know you had already closed an apology thread there. Also, I suppose that at the very least a link to an albeit-gun-related site that contains birthday suits should have some sort of explicit warning accompanying the link warning of the natural content therein, as apparently some members would be offended at arriving there (perfectly understandable). But actually it sounds like you are saying no links period, warning or not, to sites with exposed skin even if it's Ruger's homepage (?). I don't mean to be a jerk - I'm just trying to figure out the rules so I can follow them.

As I am starting my "Leave of Absence" later tonight, I will simply state my opinion here for the record:
I think the links to "sexy" pictures (guns or not) are innappropriate for TFL. Please don't think that I am some kind of prude. I have a subsrciption to the Playboy channel and my computer can find several good pornographic sites without any help from me, but I don't whip copies of Penthouse out while I am on a public airplane, nor do I keep X-rated movies next to my daughter's Barney tapes. There is a place for everything, and TFL is not, IMHO, the place for those links. Like, I suggested in the other thread, if you guys start a Email list where you can share links of nekkid bodies & guns, let me know, I'll join.... Hell, I might even contribute. I've been told that look great in a thong shooting my AR !! |

Rob, you're reasoning make perfect sense. What I am asking about is the gray area cases. Do you whip out Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition on an airplane? Is a link to babes with guns who are not naked, just in swimsuits OK? There are 100 other what-ifs in the gray area, including many sites in the gun industry with sexy pictures at their websites to promote their products. I'm really asking where the line is drawn. The only reason I'm asking for more detail is precisely because some people here are apparently really quite offended at the least bit of sexual content. And since I personally don't understand this AT ALL , I cannot use my own internal conscious as a guide to what links might be appropriate and what may not - probably stomping on piss ants here..
But PLEASE don't waste your final time here at TFL responding to this issue - others can do that. Oh, and someone brought to my attention a good point I agree with which I hadn't thought about: We don't want to alienate our women members - they are more likely to be offended by the scantily clad than our male members. Actually, many legitimate companies use naked/semi-naked girls to advertise their weapons. Check out EAA's site. Its covered with pictures of scantily-clad blond women holding EAA pistols. Would posting a link to their site also get my thread locked down by a moderator?

Hey guys,
Since I'm the one that edited the links and locked the threads, I thought my weighing-in, or more appropriately wading-in to this fray would be timely. Regarding your angst for bounding the gray-area. There is no axiomatic formulae, golden rule or magic wand. It just isn't that easy. Each case which results in our reviewing it for a potential edit or lock, not just the T&A links, is assessed on its own merit. Frankly, I enjoyed the MAC-10 buffer group, but that still doesn't make it appropriate for TFL. And, what I found much more intriguing than the Kimber prop, were the cuff's that were not in their case on the Sam Browne belt that was hanging on the wall in the background, as though they'd been recently used... Regarding any other links to nasty, vulgar, immoral, insensitive and generally not-nice tele-tubbi suitable websites... Lemme know, as I can't see all of them all the time. Hey that reminds me, I've been looking for some full-time "Hall Monitors".
