How is your SG slung?

I was wandering in the woods this weekend and was practising the mount from the SG slung over my shoulder.

Question is do you prefer to carry:

Strong side stock down "American"

Weak side stock up "African"

I was fiddling around and prefer the "African" carry. Left had grab the fore-end rotate out and bring up on target.

Just wondering.

Regards,

A sling to a long gun is what a holster is to a hangun. I have a sling on all of mine.

To answer your question, depends on what your mission is. For hunting I go with a standard carry strap on my 870. If it's dry and level ground I prefer African carry. Muddy or uneven ground where I may slip and put the muzzle in the deck I go with American carry.

Home defense/tactical 11-87 wears a single-point attachment from GG&G and sling from The Wilderness.

For hunting it's like Denny's approach. When hauling out it's slung USA style always.

African is quite useful, and I'm a bit surprised more folks do not use it.

" How is your SG slung?"

A little low and to the left. Thanks for asking.

American carry, right hand side. Avoid slinging your SG on the opposite side of your sidearm if possible. Weapon retention is much more difficult if you have a weapon on both sides -- which side do you turn toward the BG?

Hunting, I do not use a sling. If I am carrying the shotgun for social purposes, I have a sling on it, but rarely use the sling. I do prefer the weak side, butt up mode, never knew what it was called. To date, there have not been any instances where I felt I needed to protect the Fatherland, but I have my stuff ready in case that should prove necessary.

How is your SG slung?

Tactically, of course.

I find that for myself, African carry is faster is get into action. Also, unlike American style, you are less likely to have the SG banging against your sidearm. As far as weapon retention goes, Remember that the shotgun is your primary weapon. Retention of the SG is easily taught and there are many variations. If the bad guy wants your sidearm that badly......let him have it. He won't need it any more once you have employed your primary weapon.

I'm with the African carry also. I learned this carry before I knew it had a name and really think it is faster than any other type of sling carry.

The only time I use American style strong side is when I am mearly transporting a long gun, like when walking to the spot I am going to shoot.

I have practiced African weak side carry while shooting skeet with my 870 HD and found that I have no problem getting it into action and hitting clays. I didn't even try doing that with American stong side carry. There are too many moves and fumbling, I was afraid it was not safe to have the loaded gun swinging around like that.

For hunting, African carry works for me. For home defense, I take the sling off so it won't snag on anything.

I have that one covered. I'm left eyed and right handed. when i use african carry, both my pistol and shotgun are on the same side.
