Thanks, Al, and thanks to those who voted...>
I enjoy seeing the entries each month.
The image I entered this time was shot some time back but I only got around to finishing it recently. Below is info on how it was created, for anyone interested. I began with the original colour image as below, showing the Uberti Cattleman, glass, and pocket watch. The intention was to add steam drifting from the glass but I didn't get around to it and left things as is for a while. I finally got around to adding some virtual steam drifting to the right over the revolver. This pretty-well completed the basic image. The next step was to create a monochrome (black & white) version of the image. In doing so I increased the contrast a tad to keep things lively. Now comes the fun part. I layered the monochrome version of the image over the colour version and erased the area of the liquid to allow the amber colour to show. That got me part-way to my goal. I wanted to compositionally tie the revolver and the glass together via the use of colour, and so also erased the area of the stocks to allow the brown wood tone to show as well as the frame to give a little accent to the colour case hardened effect. I also increased the saturation of the amber liquid back to what it was originally as I had desaturated it a little previously. I thought the stronger colour gave it a bit more punch against the monochrome. I was fairly happy with that but there was one more aspect to address - the pocket watch. The pocket watch has a white gold case, which appears silver, and the watch chain is chromed. I considered that it would strengthen the composition if I could also tie this to the other colour aspects of the image. To this end I selected the watch and the chain and colourized them to a light yellow gold hue. Here's the final image. Thanks. |

Nice image Doogle,,,
Very well thought out image.
I do find it amusing though,,, How at the mention of alcohol and guns sends people through the roof,,, Yet several picture contest winners and many non winning entries show a gun and a bottle of fine whiskey. Not trying to start anything,,, I just find it a bit amusing is all. Aarond

aarondhgraham - thanks. I have no issue...>
...with guns and booze, in photos or not. Perhaps those who do have poor control over one, the other, or both :-)
Besides, who's to say the liquid in my image is booze. Does booze steam? Hmmm... In fact, I have a plan for a future firearms & booze photo :-) |
