One or Two Point Sling

Title says it all, trying to decide what type of sling to use on my new AR.

I don't know if it matters but its a M&P15 MOE MID

I have a single point on my M1A EBR and it works great but was told by the LGS guy (as well as several mall ninjas) that ARs were built with two point slings in mind.

Like to hear your $0.02

Thanks!

I have a 3 point on my AR only because I am use to them from the military and they work well for me. Never used a single point, not sure I would care much for it.

I'm a fan of the two point sling. I use them on my hunting rifle and work rifle.

I will add that my preference is for the V-Tac slings.

The biggest Reason I prefer the 2 point over the single point slings is the rapid adjustability. This allows me to quickly and easily sling the rifle over my back, muzzle up or down depending on situation, and then adjust the tension to the appropriate level for what I am doing, can quickly and easily tighten down to use as as a hasty sling (some even have shooter cuffs in them). I run all of mine with the rear attachment point on the right side of the stock, and as a right handed shooter this allows me to keep the rifle tighter to my body when moving.

My preference is 2 point for rifles & single for AR pistols.

I like single point slings on M4geries.

I have double point slings on my hunting rifles/shotguns and .308 AR - in thinking about it seems like short lightweight guns get single points and longer heavier guns get the double point.

I guess I am just odd.

No, I do the same thing...16" lgwt short range = single point

Longer, heavier, longer range = 2 point

Puzzled on terms

I am not acquainted with these terms 2 or 3 point slings. I use a sling on my AR, it attaches near the muzzle with another attachment on the butt. Is this the 2 pointer?

I am going to be getting a new Magpul MS4 to use in two-point configuration for my 18" AR that I Coyote hunt with.

I prefer 2 point. I like the tactical intervention specialist slip cuff quick detach. You can use the cuff as a 3rd point for stability.

I don't mind the 1 point but I only see it useful as still clinging to you while you transition to your sidearm and obviously as an attachment to you while you are shooting. Not great for carrying with rifle not in hand though such as back or chest carry. Really depends on your purposes.

For me, 1 point on a HD rig and 2 point on any rifle leaving the house.

Get the magpul sling that can go from 1 to 2 point and set up your rifle with qd mounts, as situations change the sling can change with it.

My $.02

The graphic that rpseraph shows in post #9 is very helpful, but it gets one thing wrong: It says the rifle must be un-slung to transition to shoot a 2-point sling from the off shoulder, but that's not always true. With the proper 2-point sling setup, you can transition to the other shoulder just fine with a 2-point sling and not need to un-sling it.

I prefer 2-point slings. 1-points let the rifle flop around all over the place, and 3-points are way too cumbersome.

I agree with this. I don't care for a rifle dangling from a 1-point sling--tends to whack one's junk...

My favorite is the VCAS sling connected between the receiver end plate and front sight base, using HK-hooks and appropriate mounting hardware on the rifle. YMMV...
