Winchest white box, available at WalMart.
Or did you have a specific bullet, brass, powder, primer combination in mind? Jimro

Since this is the Reloading section, I'm gonna assume your talking about Reloads.
My recomendation would to pick a reloading manuel that list THE MOST ACCURATE LOAD for the bullet you use. (which will probably be 4831). Start there and tweak the load until it works for your gun.

On my .270 ( brazilian itajuba mauser action, wilson barrel, ram-line syntetic stock that I put togheter on 2009 ) , I try IMR 4831 in combination with speer and hornady 130 bullets, satisfied with the results so I never try any other powders.
The target posted is 200 yrds results first time out. Since then group improve a little, I guess I become more familiar with the trigger... still use the original military trigger, I have plans to replace it with Timney but not done yet. As hunting rifle particulary since the longest shoot I made in my life on any hunt never exceed 125 yrds this is fine. ______ roberto Last edited by roberto mervicini; August 29, 2011 at 11:04 AM. I’ve been using 46 grains of IMR 4895 behind Hornady’s 130 grain SST bullet for years. Much pork and venison harvested with this load.

My 270 shoots best with the Nosler 130 gr Ballistic Tip, CCI BR2 primers, and H4831sc powder. The powder charge is slightly above the recommended max in the Lyman book, so I won't put it in print. Those loads are in Remington cases, but I'll be switching to Norma cases soon. That will most likely cause me to have a new favorite load.

While the above are good suggestions, I have switched over to H-4895 powder, it gives a gental push as oposed to a snap from H-4350 powder. Makes it easier to stay on target. I too use the 130 grain Hornady SSTs for the 270, love that bullet.
Here is a five shot group with that combination. Jim

Info is key here...
It really depends on what type of shooting you're doing. If you're looking for an accurate load for longer ranges in excess of 300+ yds, I'd recommend either 135 gr. Sierra Matchkings (for non hunting shooting) or 130 gr Game Kings (for hunting). The boat-tail design helps with added stability over longer ranges.
For powder charge, that really depends on the reloading manual you're using. I'm a huge fan of hornady and sierra manuals and bullets. I'm usually running 55 grains of IMR 4350 with 130 gr Gamekings for my antelope loads and I've achieved 3 shot groups like these with that current load at 100 yds. (The picture is large, but you can cover two of these groups with a dime) Last edited by Ambishot; August 30, 2011 at 03:02 PM. |

My coworker swears on Reloader 22 for his Win .270 loads. 57.0 grains is what he settled on, but I am going to work a load up myself to see how my Savage 110 likes it. I shot the load, but it was after a whole box of factory loads and I was "shot".

.270 Win 140 gr Nosler Partition New Win Brass WLR Primer 3.280" OAL 55.0 gr RL-19 (This is a MAX load, in the Nosler manual. Work up from 51.0 gr.) Consistently under 1" at 100 yards, in my rifle.

I have been shooting 50 gr IMR4895 130 gr Ballistic Tip moly coated 3.34" 22" barrel.
Quickload predicts 3008 fps 58.7kpsi Chrono measures 2875 fps With 57.7 gr Re17, I can get 3225 fps from that rifle, but it is not temp stable, and the extra velocity is not doing me any good anyway. I killed 8 mule deer with the 50 gr load, mostly between 400 and 500 yards. I aimed for the front 1/3 of the body in broadside shots. Half were bang-flop, the others ran 50 feet and then died. Per Quicktarget, zero'ed at 200 yards, I adjust the scope elevation turret 5.5 moa for 400 yards, and 8.25 moa for 500 yards.

My Mossberg ATR likes the Remington core-lokt whitetail specials available at Bass Pro Shops.
It shoots them the best of any commercially available load. I've tried some other much more expensive stuff and they just plain do not shoot well in my gun. |

I like the 130gr Sierra Gamemasters in mine.
I'd have to look up the load or speed, but its a little over the published max so I wont recommend it. My gun sticks them at a 1/2" at 100yds with IMR4831. I aint shot a critter with them though. |
