Eeewwww.
I hate morning hunts anyway, with that little sleep it really sucks. I rarely hunt in the morning and so don't have any good morning spots, without good spots I find it difficult to get motivated to get up at 430am, without getting up and going I don't find any good spots.... Self fulfilling prophecy, kind of thing.

Would you believe I didn't see a thing? Back in the blind this evening. It's calm and 87 deg. Kinda warm. But I still have high hopes for something to show this evening.

It's 6:30......and I find myself checking in on you before we head to the woods with a load of stands to set up. As the season gets going this could get really time consuming!

Here I am again, in the photo below, the triangular open area to the right is my dads camp. On the lower edge is a field the deer head for before dark. I'm sitting just outside a stand of hemlocks along an old logging trail. Blow downs should direct deer within range. Major down side today is wind. Running 15-20+.
Found this guy on the way in. :-) Last edited by Brian Pfleuger; October 21, 2012 at 03:42 PM. |

Skunked again.
I need to stop hunting when it's windy.

Don't feel bad. I didn't see a single thing sat morning or evening. On 919 acr on the red river that's strongly regulated and for our deer herd. Makes me think they are still up and moving only at night. I was so frustrated I stayed at home Sunday and did a cam swap in my 74 c10 haha

Ok, I'm back at it!
Same tree as last night, lets hope for different results! Here's a panorama shot, about 270dg around my tree from SW TO SE. I have no idea how it will look being sent by TapaTalk. |

Hey, look at that, you sure can.
Only trouble is that the files are too big. TapaTalk fixes that for me.

My bad, didn't know there was a free version, but I also had android last year it was 2.99 and posting pictures was a pain...anyways, more options this year, live from the stand will be awesome.......

Hm. I could be wrong about it being free. I've been using it for a couple years. I thought there was a free version and a $1.99 version that let you upload more pictures. I'm not sure anymore.
Live! would be awesome if there was anything live in these woods. Jumped two not 20 yards from the cabin and haven't seen so much as a bird or squirrel since. Ah well. We're into magic hour now. Hopefully something shows. |

I think they were! My dad was stationed just west of camp and got a shot at one. Couldn't find his arrow(s) but I didn't see any evidence that he hit it.

I'm reading the notes on the various "phones" and the picture/posting options and what is becoming clear is that I have got to get off the dime. I mean should I still be using a Trac-Fone with prepaid minutes from WalMart?
Breaking out of the cheap mold can be hard. PETZA: How about next time you sit giving us a bug/snake update. Not that I expect you to report either being about, just would like to hear how NICE it is to not have them!! In the last week or two while scouting/working/setting stands I've run up on 5 pigmys, one REAL rattler ( 54 inches without his head & he tasted good fried up with some fish at the market! ) and 2 REAL cotton mouths. And the mosquitos, yellow flies, ticks, chiggers......they are REALLY bad. |

Nothing wrong with that TracPhone! Sometimes I wish I didn't have all this technology.
Snakes?! Dang! That keeps you on your toes, eh? The worst it gets up here is ticks and spiders. |

Odd, normally I don't watch hunting shows because they're always out in Montana and hunting Elk and such, which I doubt I ever get to do, but Brian's journies chronicled here are actually engrossing.
And the terrain sorta kinda looks like where I hunt when I get the chance.

I wish I had something interesting, like a bloody arrow or picture of a button buck under my stand.
It's been a rough year so far. |
