Scope on a 180$ Budget

Hi all my scope that came with my savage edge crapped out on me while I was zeroing it in. I am willing to go around 180$. I was looking at the Nikon Prostaff scopes in sportsman guide. I was looking at sportsman guide because I can break it into 4 payments but that is not necessary. So should I go with the prostaff for 169$ or is there something better I should look at?

Vortex's Diamondback or Viper scopes. Some of the Vipers are on clearance for the same price as the Diamondbacks. I ordered the 2-7x32 Viper w/ C3 reticle for my AR15.

In that price range, it's hard to beat a Nikon.

Do yourself a favor however, google Nikon Primos 3x9. Those scopes are a Nikon Monarch branded as Primos. Nikon is no longer making 3x9s so you can find those Primos scopes for around $200 to $250.

For the money, you simply cannot buy a better scope than that Nikon Primos / Monarchs. I own two and they are very impressive scopes.

I have a Mueller Eradicator on my 204. I'm very happy with it for a $200 scope.

Another Vote for Vortex. I have 2 Vipers and am quite impressed and pleased with them....

Got both on sale/closeout.

2-7x32mm with BDC Reticle. This one is on my AR.
6.5-20x44mm with Target Dot Reticle. This one is on my Savage 10FCP.

I plan to buy more as I get more firearms to put them on...

I have been well pleased with the Nikon Prostaff line.

I have 3 3-9x40's on various centerfires.

I have 2 4x32's on rimfires.

Good stuff.

The Nikon Prostaff,Redfield Revolution,Burris Fullfield IIs, and Bushnell 3200 Elites/Trophy XLTs, and Weaver K fixed scopes are all in that price range. All but the Redfield,Weaver and Trophy XLT are being discontinued or revamped,so they are on discount now.
The old coin adjustable pro-staffs are currently being clearanced to make way for the new finger adjustable Prostaff's that are fully multicoated. Make sure you know which one you are buying (usually the old ones).

The Vortex 2-7x-32mm Viper is the only Viper within your budget. It's better glass and adjustments than any of the above, and is currently on deep discount with several vendors since it's being discontinued.
That said, I'm not a fan of really compact glass on larger bolt rifles.

Sportsmans Guide prices are "meh". Check out SWFA,Midsouth Shooters Supply, and Natchez Shooters Supply. Maybe Cabelas, but their prices usually stink like SGs.

The only thing about those Burris scopes is, if you want to change your magnification you have to twist the entire eye piece. Some people might not mind, but it would be annoying if you had pop-up scope caps on there.

Nitrex tr1 or tr2

Nitrex tr1 and tr2 are being discontinued and are being rebadged as weaver grand slam and super slam respectively. I think Natchez has them on sale still.

Weaver K4. 4x. no ballistic dots/dashes/etc.
1" steel tube. Not cool at all.
I've been using it like a club on every tree limb in my hunting unit for 2 years and hasn't lost zero, fogged, etc.

You can probably get one off ebay for like $60-$80 dollars.

Full disclosure: I'm a cheap guy who likes old stuff.
