1851 Richards-Mason Conversion

Hey yall. I just ordered a Cimarron 1851 R-M conversion in .38spl.
Does anyone here have any experience with these conversions? I have
always wanted one, and finally had a chance to order one. I believe
they are one of the most elegant and beautiful revolvers ever made.
Any replies would be greatly appreciated!

I like your taste

In these days of scarse ammo or ammo components, it has been my observation that .38 special is more available at a good price than either .357 and .45 LC.

There is a guy in a shop in Dade City, FL who has a tub of .38 special brass at a dime a piece. So if you decide to reload, that could be a good source. I would be happy to pick some up if you need it.

Beautiful pair of guns you have there. If you don't mind me asking, how much did the conversions run you?

Really enjoying my

Cimarron (Uberti) 51 RM conversion in .38 Spl/Colt after waiting four months to get one.

I did use paint stripper to remove the high gloss clear coat on the grip.

I managed to get ten boxes of Remington .38 Spl ammo at $ 16 a box before they ran out.

When they have it, WalMart's prices are pretty good.

I will agree it is the most elegant cartridge revolver I've ever seen.

Mine came with a tall enough front sight to put it on target at 25 yds.

They are beauties, I plan on ordering a RM '51 in .38 this spring and a '72 open top for my dad to give him on his upcoming birthday.

Congradulations...

to the expectant owner of a great revolver.

I've had mine for a couple of years and just love it. Like the '51 Navy C&B this is pretty much a point and shoot gun, great balance and very accurate even with the lightest of loads. I alternate shooting the C&B and R-M sometimes at the range and it is difficult to tell the difference.

38Spl is a great round for these guns because you can do alot with it if using BP. Reloading supplies usually are easy to obtain (current period is perhaps exception) and reloading itself is very easy. If you don't reload then factory ammo is usually plentiful and cheap in comparsion to alot of other calibers and the R-M is made to handle modern ammunition.

You made a great choice.
