Beware: rebelcannons on gunbroker.
I bought what was advertised as a NRA 99% unfired S&W 15-7 but received a S&W 15-7 with an improperly fitted side plate.
The side plate seems like it is for a K-frame (not L-frame side plate as in my initial E-mail) but it is not fitted to the 15-7. Above the trigger, the side plate is too small. On the left side of the hammer, approx 1/8 inch of the side plate extends pass the frame near the rear sight. I have not removed the grip to see how it fits under the grip. In addition, I have found rust spots and other scratches on the revolver. In the seller's email to me, He said that there are not rust spots. Since there are two minor spots it is a lie or wrong to say that there are none. The seller refused to make it right. I am stuck with the revolver. Beware! If you want more info. send me a PM. here's the item:
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=172657125 No pics, and only 3 sales....not a good idea to bid on an item unseen from a new seller...IMO..

I don't have a dog in this fight but an L-frame sideplate will not fit on a K-frame gun.

I was incorrect when I said that the 15-7 has an L-Frame side plate. The bad side plate seems like it is also for a K-frame but not for a 15-7.
In addition, I have found rust spots and other scratches on the revolver. In the seller's email to me, He said that there are not rust spots. Since there are two minor spots it is a lie or wrong to say that there are none. Right now I am considering sending it to S&W for a new side plate -- This would cost me approx $200. Will post pics of the revolver with the bad side plate later. I have learned my lesson. I just do not want others to learn this lesson the way I have. |

update:
pics added. S&W will fit a new sideplate for $300-$350 including reblue. I have forwarded the S&W response for cost of repairs to the seller, rebelcannons, but I do not expect him to respond. I consider this revolver purchase a lost. Again, I hope that none of you learn this lesson the way I have with rebelcannons. So, beware. Last edited by pilpens; June 26, 2010 at 08:20 AM. |

BEWARE !!!
Update: rebelcannons replied and offered to $50 to have the revolver fix. $50 will most likely not even cover shipping. So, I politely replied to his email as follows: Thank you for the offer. Keep your Money. Thanks, Again. ________________________________________ From: rebelcannons Sent: Saturday, June 26, 2010 10:08 AM To: pilpens Subject: Re: FYI: Response from S&W customer service Like I said, I will give you $50.00 towards the repair. The majority of the estimated cost is for the refinishing. I will NOT pay for that because it is not needed. Take it or leave it. Our shipping address is: Repair Department 2100 Roosevelt Ave. Springfield, MA 01104 Please enclose a letter detailing why you are sending in the weapon and include your name and address on the letter. Our repair department will work up an estimate and contact you to make payment arrangements. The approximate cost for fitting a new sideplate; with refinishing included: would be $300.00 to $350.00. That sideplate sure has been battered. It looks like some back alley "gunsmith" tried to remove it and didn't know how to do it.
I don't know if it will help or not but you might want to contact Gunbroker to see if they will intercede on your behalf. |

I've been buying, selling and trading guns for about 40 years and these things happen. Sellers either lie about their product, or they've gotten so used to it that they just don't mention it. I read this guy's info, and he's either outright lying or is an inbred moron.

If you buy many used guns, you'll discover this is going to happen periodically. My suggestion is that if it bugs you that much, sell the gun for whatever you can get and be done with it. Dumping hundreds of dollars into a gun that's still not going to be worth much is a waste of time. Oh, and now for the obvious. Don't do biz w/people w/recent join dates or low feedback. On fleabay, even, if a guy has a lot of positive feedback, if most are as the buyer, I don't fool with it. |

I was wrong when I said that the revolver has an L-Frame side plate installed. The side plate is for a K frame but it is not fitted. looks like it cam from another revolver.
Following is an email from rebelcannons before I purchased the revolver: To: pilpens XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Subject: Re: Question regarding GunBroker.com Item 172657125 Any firearm, once it is sold, if it is fired or unfired, is considered USED. It spent most of it's life sitting in a gun safe. The bore is perfect as it has never been fired. There are no rust spots. Bluing is about 99.9%. Again, lock up and timing are perfect because it has never been fired. There are some very minor dings on the sideplate from someone messing around with it (I am not the original owner). Most of those are hidden under the grips. On Thu, Jun 10, 2010 at 12:23 PM, pilpens wrote: Can you give more detail about this revolver? If used but unfired, how was it used? Dents? Scratches? rust spots? lockup? Bore condition? Bluing wear? Thanks ================ The attached picture looks better than the actual revolver. Last edited by pilpens; June 27, 2010 at 11:42 PM. |

He told you about the dings. I think he was more honest than not. Looking at your picture, "most" of the dings are under the grips. The only point of contention would be a proper definition of "minor."
You should have asked for some pictures of the dings. Personally, if I had been looking for a collectable, as soon as he said that I would have bolted. |

I did accept the dings and dents.
What I did not want to accept is the fact that the side plate came from a different revolver. It did not fit. The bluing was dull and different shade compared to the rest of the revolver. The yoke screw hole was enlarge so that the screw would line up. etc, etc. In the end, I still accepted the lost. I am not very happy with it which is why I posted here and left a negative feed back. In any case, this will not really cause me ulcers or a shorter life. I have learned a lesson and I am thankful to him for it. If you think that he is trustworthy, then I am happy for you. |
