Green Dot load for 45 acp 230 g

Hi guys. I need your expertise. I am brand new to reloading. Can anyone direct me to the best sites or data regarding green dot loads for my 45 acp. I use a 230 g projectile. Data seems to be varied but depending on the info seems to have a range from 4.9 to 6.5 although most data says 4.9 to 5.3 g. Thanks for the info.

Which brand of 230? I would start by going to the manufacturers website and see what they recommend for your bullet using Green Dot. If it is not online but they sell a reloading manual I'd buy a it and look in there. There is some info on Alliant website for Speer bullets

Hope that helps

My Lyman #49 manual states:

225gr LRN
4.8gr Green Dot 725fps - 5.8gr 845fps max load
1.272 oal (but adjust how well it chambers in your particular gun)

As you are brand new to reloading, I will offer a caution against using Green Dot in this application. Not that it's not of a proper burning rate (it is!) but that it's a mother trucker when it comes to metering through powder dispensers.

If you are hand weighing charges, enjoy Green Dot. I've used my share of it in .38 Special and some in .45 with 200gr LSWC.

But if you are running it through a powder measure, I wish you lots of luck -- and you'll need it.

I wipe my powder measure with a used dryer fabric softner sheet. Cuts down on static and allows most powders to meter smoother. [note new ones don't work as well as used ones, I don't know why]
