International Pistol
Question for all, just for kicks...
If you had to pick one (1) pistol, as your one-and-only, 007-style, world-class-traveller choice, what would it be, and why? Can be your favorite now, or one you'd save up and buy. Keep in mind - size/shape (concealability - some places you don't want to be showing off your comp .45), parts availability, caliber availability, weapon reliability, etc. |

To start - Walther PPS, 9mm. Good reliability, solid build. Acquire a spare part 11b from S&W, and keep it in the wallet. 6rnd mag in weap, and 8rnd hidden in the pocket. IWB carry.

HK45 Compact Tactical. Yes it's not the most compact out there but it is manageable. If you use a shoulder holster, even better. It's a .45. It's already set up for a silencer which is useful if I am going to be James Bond. It can handle loads that will register on the richter scale- because sometimes it may be necessary to shoot down a helicopter or knock a 275 pound thug to the floor like a bowling pin. Its extremely accurate and at the cutting edge of technology. And of course it's an HK- if I am to save the world I need the very best.

I'd stick with my Sig 239. No sense in breaking in a new one while I'm busy learning how to like certain martini's and how to be an international man of mystery and stuff.

A Glock-36 is what I'd want to have with me, but I don't know about the availabitily of the 45 acp. I do know 9mm is world wide so maybe something simple like a Glock 9mm.

Two that come to mind would be the Beretta 92 and Walther PPK
About as international as you can get. But have to admit, I was excited when I saw the topic, and disappointed when I openned it. I thought we were going to get to discuss International Pistol Competition.

The fictional James Bond never had any problems carrying a pistol anywhere, on airplanes, into secure buildings, etc. Real "international carry" is very difficult for even real government agents; for individual travellers, it can mean a long term in a very nasty prison, or even assessing the caliber of the rifles being pointed at you by a firing squad. Either situation is not pleasant, so forget about tucking that PPK in your jeans and setting off on a foreign vacation.

Thanks for the much-needed dose of reality, Jim K.
Living here in VT, with its relaxed gun laws, makes me very wary of even going beyond its borders, to say nothing about going over international borders. Canada (which is 9 miles away from my house)? Try taking a handgun in there, and report back to me. Massachusetts? You know the story there. I'll play James Bond at home, thank you. |

For carry in Europe and middle east, a well used Browning H.P. the older the better. As I would have a chance of finding extra ammo if needed, and if caught with the gun I MIGHT have a chance of giving the story I just picked it up locally to take home with me.
Central and South America Colt government model in 38 super, for the same reasons as the Browning. |

Whatever the handgun,,,
It would choose something in 9mm,,,
Possibly the most common pistol round ever. Remember,,, A gun with out ammo,,, Is merely a very expensive rock! Aarond

Glock 19 or 26. You can always toss it in a fire and make most of it go away.

Browning/FN Hi-Power 9mm.
Reasoning: - Widely used by many military and law enforcement agencies for years. This implies parts availability such as magazines and springs. - 9mm because of being a common round. - Designed for service, very accurate, and reliable. There is a close second place choice as well, but the OP says one recommendation.

If it's to be an "international" gun, I'd suggest something chambered for a load you can actually find outside the United States. That invalidates .45 ACP, .40 S&W, and .357 Magnum for the most part.
If you're playing Mr. Secret Agent, you probably want handgun ammunition you can get without attracting attention. That pretty much leaves .22 LR.
