I was just about to order a new recoil spring for my H&k USP 45f when I saw that it came with an extra power firing pin spring. What does an extra power firing pin spring do? Also, what would a reduced or extra power hammer spring improve. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I knew I would get the right answer here.

I'll take a stab at it, just to see if somebody jumps on me:
Some manufacturers of primers use a slightly softer metal for the cup. If the primer is punctured by the firing pin, gases blow back at you--which is a Bad Thing. A stronger spring, with the floating firing pin, will help keep from puncturing primers. If you don't have a puncture-problem, the regular spring is just fine. Next possibility: If the stronger recoil spring brings the gun back into battery hard enough, the floating firing pin could (maybe) come forward hard enough--just from inertia; the slide stops, but the pin doesn't--to fire the cartridge. If so, the stronger firing pin spring would prevent this. Grains of salt, Art |
