What is your favorite shotgun?

My all-purpose, serious duty shotgun is an old Remington Model 11. Its always been treated with TLC and is still in very good condition. The original forearm and stock are still good. I've fired everything up to and including slugs in it, but I intend to try to use only light to moderate shotshell loads from now on, because I really don't want to split that forearm. I do keep a few factory 00 Buck shells unchambered in its magazine for emergency HD purposes in case my 45 ever needs help. It's my favorite gun.

But right now my most FUN gun is a beat up old Forehand Arms 12 Ga.single barrel break action gun, patented in 1896 and probably manufactured no later than 1910. I read somewhere that although Forehand made inexpensive guns that were often used as "barn" shotguns, they had some very advanced features for their time. The ejector mechanism in mine is particularly fine. It'll throw a heavy brass shotshell out of there like a rocket. And there's an unusual lock on the receiver, that helps keep this one tight as a tick. The chamber length is a relatively modern 2 3/4 inches, and the steel in the barrel is good. You can see milling marks inside the barrel; i.e. it's not a Damascus steel barrel.

I recently bought ten 2 5/8 inch RMC brass shotshells to handload and shoot black powder in this old gun. I've loaded, shot, and reloaded them twice now. Using 7 1/2 shot, my handloads have patterned well enough and they hit hard enough to put a minimum of 10 pellets through both sides of an empty Coke can at 25 yards every time I've tried it. Good for upland birds, I'd think.

I've also handloaded and fired a few papershells in it loaded with Triple 7 powder, but I just bought some Red Dot powder and will use it to load and fire vintage smokeless loads in the papershells from now on. I have an old antique James Dixon and Sons roll crimper and its a hoot to roll crimp the paper shells. I can shoot vintage smokeless loads in roll-crimped paper shells in either one of my old guns.

My Mossberg 835 Ulit-Mag. It's nothing fancy but it's the most dependable gun I own. When I have gone shooting clays with friends or hunting, it has never jammed, misfired, failed to eject or had any other problems. I'm really happy with it's performance and it's nice to be able to go up to a 3 1/2" shell when I"m feeling like packing a little extra punch.

It's certainly not fancy, but it's definitly my favorite.

My all time favorite is the sxs 12gauge by anybody but if I had to choose based on functionallity and general reliability then I would have to say... Mossberg 500A.

Well, I'm of the mind that while the shotgun is one of the most versatile weapons a person can own, even that category can be broken down further.

For instance, if I'm manning a road block in the sandbox, I want a Mossberg M590A, because it is reliable, easy to use in the stress of a fire fight, and I can swap out between buckshot and less lethals in a manner of seconds.

However, if I'm wading out into the duck swamp with the ex-girlfriend I want my Benelli Super Black Eagle II, but if it's a day of quail or dove hunting I'll take my Remington Sportsman 58, and if I'm busting clays for some trap fund raiser, I have to use my Ruger Red Label o/u, and finally, I like keeping a Remington 870 Police Magnum behind the door for home defense.

My Winchester 1400 MK II. I would say a Browning Citori Sporting Clays but it was my buddies in the Air Force and not "mine" even though he let my keep it at my house and shoot it all the time! I do love my 1400 thought!

My HD shotgun is an extended mag Browning BPS. My hunting shotgun is either my older BPS or my Weatherby O/U both in 12 ga.

I like my 870 GA a lot but I also own an Ithaca 10GA an old school double barrel 410.

I have not taken the 10GA out yet so the 870 is my current favorite. I have an 18.5 inch slug barrel as well as a long (don't remember how long) hunting barrel. I also use a folding stock

My Favorite Shotgun is my MossBerg 835 Ulti Mag.
Love it. Power up, or Power Down change Chokes acordingly, and the controlls are in all the right places.

I have owned Mossbergs, Brownings, and numerous other brand name guns but my favorite old shotslinger is an Armsport single shot 12 guage duck gun. It has a 2.5ft spread at 35-40yrds and can handle up to a 3in mag shell. The barrel is 36" long and it is accurate beyond belief!( I must admit that I am a bit bias because it was my first shotgun.)I have no idea what chock is built in to it but with the long barrel and mag shells it will kick like the perverbial mule but the reach is worth it. I have let my friends shoot it and they say that either end is dangerous! As for ammo I prefer Hornady. Sad thing is that when I posted earlier I had not had this gun out in so long that I didn't even consider it! Glad I got it out this weekend and rekindled my love affair with the first and definitly the best long range shotgun I own. Just because it is older does not mean its less.

Without a doubt....The Magnificent Remington 11-87 Police. 18" IC Barrel, Factory Rifle Sights, Parkerized, +2 Extention, Synthetic Furniture, and my grubby little Finger Prints all over it...From Butt Stock to Muzzle. There are about 127 better Shotguns on the market...even some that work consistantly. This is my Favorite of all time, whether it functions or not...I don't care.......I want three of them.....This is a repost due to unchecked greed.....Zebulon

Remington Model 58 Sportsman 12 gauge. I firmly believe it was the only gun my Father ever bought brand new. Him and two of his Brothers all went out and bought them together.

I have it in to the gunsmith as we speak to get it in good operating condition. Not a valuable gun by any means, but one I will cherish and shoot from time to time.

Still have my Savage Fox side-by-side 20 with 26" barrel (two trigger). It's sweet! I used it as a demo to our Scout meeting on NRA Gun Safety (I'm NRA certified instructor for pistol & shotgun). Had a Scout leader meet me after the lesson and wanted to buy it from me that afternoon!

I bought it when I was in my early 20's. It still looks the same almost 40 years later.

Either my IAC 12ga reproduction 1887 lever action or my dad's oldest Savage 12ga. (He got it around 1974) It's been shot so much the slide will just about work itself if you shake it.

In the early '80s the local K-mart had a fall hunting sale.

I went fully intending on buying an 870 on sale for $139.00.

Looooooooong time ago!

Sporting goods had 1100 behind the counter for $139.00!

It had a 30" full choke barrel with no rib.

I asked the clerk why $139.00?

Here's why:

Several months ago man comes in, asks to handle the 1100. Clerk hands it to him. He reaches into pocket pulls out a shell and inserts it into the gun and demands all the money in the cash register.

He takes the money and flees out through the garden center, which was right behind sporting goods.

Runs up into woods behind K-mart.

Police come with K-9 and incredibly the guy is still in the woods!

Shoot out, perp wounded.

Time transpires and gun comes back to K-mart and they MUST SELL AS USED!

A retail department store selling something used?

I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT!

The icing on the cake?

I ask the clerk if he can put a 28" modified barrel on the gun, and withheld my willingness to pay more.

DIDN'T HAVE TO!

On my honor this is a true event.

Yeah, THAT 1100 is my favorite shotgun.
