remington just made the 10,000,000th 870. That should tell you something. the 870 is a great gun.. the action is smooth and never jams and is very accurate. It's design is over 50 years old and is still the top selling shotgun. Very reliable gun and i would get it if i were you

Never jams?

You never shoot, do you?

If it's never jammed, you haven't shot it enough. The Express has been having issues with cheap Walmart ammo, and unpolished chambers. Several people on this board have had issues where they've had to remove the barrel and tap the shell out with a rod.

Let's stir the pot!
The 500 is more reliable. It has two extractors for extra leverage to prevent those stuck rounds.

Jams on the 870 i am convinced are all user error, if your not hard enough on the forend it will cause a jam, my father does it all the time when using my gun but yet i have zero problems

Nope, I don't think it is user error. My 870 Supermag had issues, and after I followed some recommendations now the gun is flawless. I shouldn't have to do that to get a firearm to work out of the box period.

I'm a relatively strong guy, even at the range I schuck the crap out of my gun. When I first got it it jammed. I know for sure it isn't user error.

Im sorry I should have specified, the super mag I would agree is not perfected yet but the standard 3" receiver work perfect out the box. Not to hijcak but what did you do to the super mag?

Actually it was many 870 express sticking hull threads before the first mention of one in a super mag appeared here at TFL...
Been an ongoing issue for quite some time in the express line up...

My 870 never jams. Have had over a thousand rounds through it (with "cheap walmart ammo") and not one jam.

i've never had a jam like that with any ammo ever. i have 3 870's and shot countless rounds. sometimes a double feed or something along those lines, but never a stuck shell.
