Just installed tall front sight on Mauser

This moring I installed a Brownells Tall front sight on my Yugo Mauser.]
I filled a mark at where the old sight stopped incase I want to use the settings.
My question is what to expect when I fire it, Should it be pretty close to Point of aim, or very low?
Anyone else ever done this.
I filled and got a very nice tight fit on the sight, and I think it looks pretty cool.

Usually you end up pretty low, like 9 inches low at 100 yards. File slowly until you get the POI that you want or walk the rear sight out to compensate for the higher front blade.

I took it out and shot yesterday, I decided not to file it down.
At 100 yards I can hit within a License plate, with the rear sight set on 500.
At 40 Yards I can hit a golf ball with it also.
And with the rear sight picked up, the Sight picture is alot better for me.
I was shooting some of the worst ammo for it, Yugo 196 grain, I only fired 15 Rounds but only had one fail to fire. Recocked and it also fired.
I also like picking up the rear sight because I bet I will have to drop it down some to hit with the Romainian 150 grain light ball ammo. I like having the adjustability and the sight picture is better for my not so perfect eyesight. I painted the back of the front sight white, and it picks up quickly.
Now that I can hit something with this Rifle, I love it.
And there have been no permanant alterations to the Rifle, I can enjoy it but also quickly return it to original issue condition.
I brought it home and quickly cleaned the barrel, and bolt closer to deer season, I plan to sight in with some soft points and use it for close range deer hunting.

Oh Yea, one other thing, Just out of curiosity, I finished my shooting at a license Plate, placed on a Cresoaked Post, An old telephone pole that had been cut and turned into a Corner fence post, at 100 yards.
The 196 grain Yugo Spitzer, not only hit the license plate, but went all the way through the Thick Post, Thats awesome penetration.
If your being shot at with one of these, dont hide behind a telephone pole.

If it will blow through a telephone pole I don't think Bambi has a chance.

I am excited about the rifle, Its so nice now that I have it where I can hit with it.
With the Tall Front sight, and with the rear sight slightly elevated, the sight picture is very good.
The front sight blade is thinner than the original blade, It aims like an old pair of Buckhorns.
I will hunt deer with this rig this fall, I will sight in with some good soft points.
I figure if a man cant get his deer with this, he needs to take up golf.

I didn't get into military surplus rifles until ten years ago, at age 49.
At that point my vision had gotten pretty bad.
Tough luck, because I used to have fantastic vision, 20:15
In other words, I could see at 20 feet what a normal person could see at 15.

Well that was a long time ago because now my vision is bad, without glasses I couldn't get around too well.

I now have 4 Swedish Mausers, one Finnish M39, and a Turkish Mauser in 8mm.

All of these, of course, would make great deer rifles, but, I am not good enough to hunt with them. I don't like scout scopes.
I am not gonna drill and tap my beauties.

So I hunt with a bad ass muzzleloader with a 3x9 Sightron scope.

I wish to hell I had gotten hold of a Swedish Mauser when I was 25, I would have killed quite a few deer and hogs with it.

Similar problems with my eyes as I age. I'm unable to focus on the forward mounted rear sights found on many mil-surps. Trying to get the front post and target in focus doesn't happen.

I do better with rear mounted aperture sights like that found on the Lee Enfield No4. I recently bought a Yugo M48A that came with a Mojo rear sight. I installed that a month ago and still had the focus problem on the front blade. I was looking at Mojo's web site and found he makes a replacement front sight that is a aperture with different size inserts. I figured $40 was worth the gamble and ordered a set foe the Yugo.

With this dual aperture set up there is nothing to focus on, just line up the two apertures. Works amazing well for my eyes. I have talked to others that have bought them and they have had the same results. You might give this a try.

Hope you remembered to put your license plate back on the pickup. Texas is bad about writing you a ticket for not having your license plates displayed.

It was an expired plate, but I did take take it down

I just cant get over, Shooting through a Post like that at 100 Yards.
It was a thick post, Cresoak and everything.
Now that I can hit with this rifle, I really like it.
