22-250 pet loads?

I've been reloading for pistols for twenty years or so but I've never really fooled with bolt rifles much. I've ordered a Remington 700 in 22-250 and should get it next week. Got any pet loads for paper-shooting? Also maybe some good coyote medicine.

They usually run about 25-30 #s around here.

I shoot 35 grains of IMR4320, CCI-200, and a variety of 52-55 grain bullets through a Remington 700 and a old model Savage 112v with excellent results.

I am going to recommend a coyote load that has worked superbly for all my 22/250's. Use the Winchester 64 gr PP bullet, with 39 grains of 4350 (Accurate or IMR). It WILL stabilize in a 1 in 14 twist, and might be the most accurate load you will ever develop. Try it!

Try Hornady or Sierra 50 to 55 gr bullets, win brass, CCI-250 mag primer & enough H-380 to get 3700 mv (start at say 36.0 gr & work up slowly looking for pressure, accuracy & velocity.....not necessarly in that order)

Try some loads with IMR3031. As always start with a starting load and work up. I have used 3031 for years and it is a good one in the 22-250. I (years ago) worked up loads with the 50 and 52 grain bullets that equaled the max loads in the old Speer #7 Manual without showing any signs of pressure what so ever, plus I could get 10-15 loadings per case. Today those loads according to the manuals today are WAY too hot. Take that for what its worth. We know more today but also the lawyers are involved

. I think you will LOVE the Rem. 700 22-250. Mine is 35 years old and STILL can shoot better than I am capable of taking advantage of!

I'm with Headspace . . . but I like the Nosler 55 grain Ballistic Tip over 38.0 grains of H-380, ignited with the CCI 250 magnum primer since H-380 is a ball powder. This load chronographs ~3680 fps in my Rem 700 VS and has accounted for literally truckloads of groundhogs in upper East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.

Load is a little warm, so start with 36.0 grains H-380 and work up . . . carefully.

Berger 55 gr. MEF, moly, over 37.7 grains H380, with a CCI BR primer shoots in the mid-threes with my Savage M12BVSS-S.
