9mm 115 gr LRN with Clays
I am going to be loading up some 9mm with Acme Bullet 115 gr LRN and Clays. I made a dummy round to check length and headspace. At the C.O.L. listed on the Hodgdon site, the bullet is barely seated past the lube groove. Just wondering as long as it is the minimum length should it be ok? Thanks

Welcome to TFL!
As long as it is plunking fine in the barrel you should be fine. Normally you would want about a thumbnail thickness from the shoulder to the case mouth. If your new to reloading: A note on Load, start low and work your way up looking for signs of pressure like flattened primers and split casings. Take three loads with you incrementally in lots of 5-10 each starting with min load and working up .1 gr at a time (For Clays). Careful with clays she is fast and can have pressure spikes. Double check OAL and charges.

I just loaded a bunch of 115 gr FMJ bullets this past week with Clays.
I loaded 25 in 3.7, 25 in 3.8 and 25 in 3.9 grains. Every load shot acceptable but for my S&W MNP the 3.8 was the better load. The Hi-Point Carbine loved the 3.9 loads as the groupings were far better than the other two. Have fun finding out what makes your gun work best. |

With a 115gr bullet....using Clays.....the min is 3.7grains and max is 3.9grains...so you to be cautious with it.
Personally, I like that 115 gr bullet in 9mm at the max...3.9grains. I've loaded a lot of them lately with Clays...and its a good round in all of my 9mm's....( 4" and 5" 1911's / Sig 239 / and a Sig 226 ...). |
