I would like to find out how old this Remington 870 is that I just traded for. Serial number is 195009 X. Thanks in advance.

For Remington firearms there is usually a 2-letter date code on the left side of the barrel near the receiver. See if there is one and let us know what it is. Or someone may have a serialization list.

Could it be XY? The first letter is the month and should be one of: B L A C K P O W D E R X. Where B is January and X is December. If that is the date code then Y would be 1974. Or it could be that they added the month later on and YY would then be 1952. Do either of those dates make sense?

It definitely has a "YY" on the receiver. I suspect the DOM is 1952. It has the older style forearm that is not checkered but has ribs that loop around it, and there is no checkering on the rest of the stock. Thanks for your help.
