I'm Going To Start Reloading 8X56R

But I can't find any loads for this round in any of my four reloading manuals. Got nice 205 grain .329" bullets and Prvi Partizan brass. Waiting for my Lee dies to come in, and hope it had some loads listed, but I would really like to immediately start by having the correct powder on hand. What I got in the house for rifle is 414 and H4895.

Anybody got some recipes?

There's data here. Don't know how reliable it is though. http://members.nuvox.net/~on.melchar/8x56r/index.html
And here. http://www.handloads.org/loaddata/de...Powder&Source=
Where you're going to find .329" bullets is another thing. Although, Huntington's lists a 200 grain spitzer at $37.98 per 50.

Grafs has correct sized (.329") Hornady 205 grain bullets for 30 bucks/100.

Too bad that first site has a listing for IMR4895, but when you click on it, all the numbers are zero. Might have to buy some 3031

Well I made two sets of different powders. I used Hodgdon H4895 and loaded 15 rounds apiece using 43, 44, and 45 grains. Then I used Accurate 4350 with 15 rounds each of 41, 42, and 43 grains. Now I'm just waiting to make it to the range.

This may not sound like a brilliant tip, but in some cases, I think it works wonders.

Google is a ridiculously powerful tool. If you need info on a specific guy who is named John Smith, Google will NOT help. But if your search topic is an odd word or collection of letters and numbers, Google kicks back a real serious load of random chatter.

I just ran "8x56R data" in to a basic Google search and it produced over a thousand hits. Many are repeats and some aren't producing load data specifically, but it's a helluva lot of results for almost zero effort. Mixed in with some usable load data will also be a heckuva lot of chatter that may be of interest to anyone who is shooting this caliber.

Well believe it or not, I did Google it. After wading through sight after sight and not finding what I needed, I came here. I'm not lazy, just cheap.

I also found that the dipper in the Lee dies (3.1 cc) was giving me 44.3-44.8 grains of Accurate 4350. Right about where I wanted to be with it. The powder itself does not lend itself well to dipping due to the cut of it. but it does get me ballpark if I want to squeeze out a few quick rounds.

Well fired all six loadings, and did not see much difference between group sizes. So I think I'll stick with the 41 grains of Accurate 4350 for economy.

But I would advise you to try smaller lots than 15. Shooting 100 of them in one day put a darned good bruise on my shoulder. Oh well, load development is complete, I can quit a lot sooner now.

Of course shooting about 75 rounds of 7.62X54R the same day didn't help!
