What should I expect to pay for Remington 870/1100?

I started my shotgun quest looking at the mossberg silver edition O/U's. However, when I heard that there is the possibility for malfunctions in the future and that they are not made by Mossberg directly, I decided to look elsewhere. I have read great things about both the Remington 870 and 1100. They are obviously classics, and I think I will look into possibly getting one of these. I have found a lot of information on used prices, but I cannot seem to find any prices for new 870's or 1100's... Anyone know how much I can expect to pay for either of these new at a gun shop? I know it may vary from store to store, but an approximate range. I am looking for a 12 guage, and I will be using it for skeet shooting and hunting. Is there a certain barrel length I should look for, or a specific model I should look for (ie. the Remington 1100 sporting 12)?

Prices vary by region and locale, but $375 should get you a very nice, clean example of either. Don't buy an Express 870 unless you need to have a beater; the fit and finish is much better on a Wingmaster. Some real pretty wood is on some of the older guns as an aside.

for an 870 sure... Mid 300's is about where they start. if your looking for semi the 1187 is gonna be a couple hundred more. Cant EVER EVER go wrong with an 870, i swear by those things. Keep one as a home defender, another i use for hunting and skeet. For barrel length you want 23+ choke included if you plan on hunting and skeet/trap. Not sure what you plan on hunting with it, but gonna say if its game such as deer or turkey you should look at the 3" mag or 3.5" supermags. Good thing is once you have a choked 870 you can change the choke out for what you plan on doing with it. Can use the improved modified for deer, superfull's for turkey or the skeet choke for well skeet obviously. The choke will alter the spread of the round per distance. The 870 is the 10/22 of shotguns for accessories, they make any and everything. Cant go wrong

$249 is an excellent deal on the 870. I got mine new in box for $120 but it was a going out of business sale.

Well I just made thr purchase. I got a Remington 870 Wingmaster 12ga Super Mag for $380. It is super clean! It has shiny wood and scroll work on the action, and it has a cool little scrolled "RA" on the bottom of the butt stock. Very pretty gun, and I loved that it was a super mag. It came with 3 chokes.

It definitely seemed like an excellent price, any comments?

No, other than you'll be very happy with it. My Wingmaster is still going strong, bought it in the mid 70's. I think you made a great choice.

Depends on location, here in NWFL a used 870 Wingmaster in a gun/pawn shop is in the $300-$400 range. I bought one last month at a shop in MI for $199 out the door. They had about 7 of them all marked $199.

I bought a used 870 express magnum, for 200$ used(looked almost brand new). Best firearm I have ever purchased.

what's diiferent between the express and the wingmaster?

Wingmaster is a shiny blued finish with nicer wood and just more attention to detail.

Express is a matte finish with cheaper wood or synthetic stocks and a plastic trigger guard.

Functionally there's not much difference, other than the WM being smoother out of the box. Aesthetically there are large differences.

I prefer the express though as I'm pretty hard on my hunting guns and don't want to sweat the dings.
