What is the difference

between full length case sizing and only neck sizing?

I understand why you would want to as you don't tear up the brass as bad and only people do it for one type of round for one type of rifle for headspace and other stuff.

But all of the reloading manuals that I've read talk about it, but none mention how to do it.

TIA,
Texas

You need a neck sizing die to neck size only. You need a full length die to resize the whole case.

These are 2 different types of dies for 2 different operations.

Many folks will fl resize when reliability and function of the ammo is important, like in a hunting rifle or a semi auto. It brings the ammo back to saami dimensions.

People neck size when reliability is not as important as accuracy, like benchrest shooting. This allows the body of the case to stay fire formed to your particular chamber, and only resizes the neck so it can accept a new bullet.

Just realize that if you have two rifles in the same caliber - even from the same maker - neck sizing may not work; the same is true for semi-auto's

If you're loading one caliber in one rifle, then neck-sizing can really tighten up the accuracy of your handload
