VA CWP - Moving Back to VA
Can someone please let me know how to apply for my CWP again in VA? I applied for my CWP in Dec. 2011 (pass class in Nov 2011) and received it in Feb 2012. However I took a new job in AZ and changed my residence to AZ in Aug. 2012. As luck would have it, I will now be returning to VA(Arlington) in January 2013.
Does anyone know if I'll have to sit for the class again? Is there a shelf life for the concealed carry class that would make my application easier? thank you in advance. I will miss the state of AZ and the fine people and shooters I've met here. -John |

And why would your old cwp from 2012 not still be valid?
BTW: Just checked VA law... my original question still stands. Secondly, VA law specifically states you training never expires. Last edited by hermannr; December 11, 2012 at 05:43 PM. |

I received my VA CWP earlier this year around the time I left VA. I figured moving out of state and changing address would invalidate my VA CWP. I no longer have a VA license and will have to go to Arlington county DMV to get a new one and re-register my car. I assumed the same would be true for my CWP.
Thanks for the response. |

Do you still have the 'old' one?
Do you have an address for where you'll be living when you get here? Use that info to apply for a new one. The class is most likely still valid. You may even be able to get an out-of-state permit, then move here and do a change of address. Proactive Shooters . com can set you straight.

Thanks Tinner. I have my old VA CWP card. Am moving back to same address. My wife wasn't able to move her job out here so I am heading back to NOVA and looking for a job. My timing couldn't better; trade beautiful AZ winter for mid-Atlantic slush(sarc). Hope my wife doesn't read that. ;-)

Check with Virginia State Police or the Circuit Court Clerk's Office in the location you are moving to, your VA permit may still be valid and all you may need is a change of address. I have not heard of the Virginia permit becoming invalid because of a move. It may save you some money if it works.

It's a CHP, not CWP. Go to your courthouse and let them know you lost your card and need a replacement.
