new to shotguns

Tried out my buddies maverick 88 first time using a shotgun! I'm possibly purchasing the same gun is that a good choice for a first SG? Also looked at the Chinese 870 knock off as well as the real 870. Liked the Mossberg 500 just a bit out of my price range any suggestions are appreciated!

Ive heard good things about the Maverick though I don't own one. I love my Mossberg 500s and my Remington 870. You can't go wrong with either. However, I would not get any Chinese knock of or Chinese firearm period but that's my opinion.

Check out the used gun racks in a few shops and you'll be surprised at what you can find in the way of good quality bargain priced US made shotguns and rifles.

I bought my 1st SG about a yr ago. NEF parndner pump 12ga at a pawnshop for about $280. It came with a collapsible stock & pistol grip. Look pretty close to new. I've never had a problem with it. You can buy a new one with factory stock for $200 at academy.

I got my Maverick new about a year ago for $177 from Walmart. I got an 18in. barrel for the house, and use the 26 in. for trap. I love it and it does a great job. I plan to upgrade someday to a nice U/O for trap, but the Mav will (Hopefully!!!) stay under my bed for years to come.
