hello all,
I have a mosin nagant that I bubba'd and don't like it so I am changing the configuration a bit. I'm going to take the ATI scope mount off as the new stock will have a built in scope mount so I have questions. what is the best way to deal with the D&T on the receiver?
1. get some shorter screws and just locktite them in.

2. fill in with some sort of solder?

3. ignore them and hope I never have a case rupture?

A scope mount- mounted to the stock?

I've toyed with a couple of ideas to do this with my stocks, but never felt comfortable with the concept being absolutely rigid enough to hold zero perfectly.

Is the forward hole into the chamber? And it's not blind?

You could just run the screws in, cut them off with a Dremel, and grind (carefully) flush with a stone.

it's a tacticool stock and quick detach mount so I doubt the zero will hold perfectly but considering that I ran out of downward adjustment on this mount and still hit 18 inches high at 100 yards then anything is an improvement. I was getting a little more advice on another forum so I decided to go with 1/8 inch hole plugs from midway. I do believe that the forward screw goes into the chamber but I'm afraid I don't know what blind means.

"Blind" hole just means that it doesn't extend all the way through the metal into the chamber, which would be an obviously bad idea.

They're done finished with a plug tap (flat bottom).

Drilling any kind of hole into the chamber is generally considered a dangerous thing.
I'm not sure I'd like to be firing a rifle with a hole drilled into it... my face is a little too close to it for that.

precisely what I thought when I was doing it but that's what ATI's instructions said to do, and yes it goes all the way through.

Are the through holes in the chamber or the receiver ring? The receiver ring is where the lock lug reside. It is ok to have through holes in the receiver ring, but in the chamber only blind holes can be drilled. Through holes in the chamber mostly means your barrel is done for. When fired, the brass will flow into that hole. If you are lucky, you will have stuck case. Worse the case will blow out as there is no steel support where the holes are. Plugging the holes is not recommendable. If the plug fails, it becomes projectile. Be careful.

hmm, well I thought the forward hole was in the chamber but now that I have the screws out I can see the bolt covering both of them when closed so I guess it's just in the receiver ring.

My opinion would be to buy another Mosin and start over. They are relatively inexpensive vs the worst case scenario.
