SIG556Russian

Anyone else interested in this?

What do you all here think?

I would like to hear some more reviews if anyone has any.
It's not out yet but some privelleged individuals end up using these things before they hit the market...

I think it's going to be typical as far as cost but if it can be proven worth it I'd dump my Romaian 7.62 and grab this.

I'd say its not a 556 if it's in 762

Nice looking rifle, adjustable gas port, standard AK mags, folding stock. Looks nice, but the price point will probably be around $1,500. I'll stick with my SKS and Mini-30.

Mine got to me today. Some of my initial thoughts...

The factory mag locks in fine but there is side to side mag wobble once in. The polymer 'bullet mag' that the dealer sold me would not fit in the magwell without 30 seconds of adjusting with a file. It fits nice and snug now-no wobble. The Bulgarian metal mags from Aim Surplus fit fine. Still some wobble but only about half of what the factory polymer mag had.

The barrel is not much bigger in outer dimensions from a 5.56 model except the flared part at the end seems noticeably bigger.

It isn't any more nose heavy than the 5.56 models.

The only reason I can see to get this instead of an AK is the standard 1913 rail.

Now that this is in 7.62x39, I finally have an excuse to buy the SIG. In 5.56, it had too many disadvantages to an AR to waste the money.

Lol It's named "SIG556R" because it's basically their 5.56 rifle except chambered for the Russian round (yea I know it's not exclusively Russian...).

I'd love one. The site said it takes "AK type mags." Does that mean it takes standard AK mag or does it have its own proprietary mags?

Looks nice. If I had some extra cash I wouldn't mind one of those to go with my 556 SWAT.

agreed .... they should have changed the name. Personally i would have followed the old 550 series and gone with 557. or could have gone with sig 726r (assuming later they will follow with 726n for nato).

i think its a great concept. i already passed the info to my friend this morning. he already shoot 7.62x39 and was interested in the 556 ... this way he can keep the caliber count low and just buy one type of ammo. he was stoked untill he found out all or nearly all the preorder stock has been sold out!!

A range report would be interesting. I'm curious to see what it does with Eastern Bloc ammo in particular.

I'd rather have a SLR-107 and a couple cases of ammo

AKs are cheap enough to buy one and completely dress it up in rails and folding stocks, tactical gear and still cost 1/3 to 1/2 of a Sig 556 Russian.
