It's time for a new sporter. It has to be built on a 98 action, but which one? Going to be a .338-06(avoids feeding problems)and my choices are a clean Czech VZ24, a 1948 Yugo or a Persian 98, also built by the Czechs. The Yugo appears to be unissued and had a turned down bolt, the VZ-24 is bomb-proof and the Persian is beautiful. Which one do I choose? Mr. Stringer, I await your learned opinion.

Please excuse me for butting in.A gun dealer
friend of mine has a Douglas barrel in .338 that he got in some trade. It is contured but not threaded or chambered he has been trying to sell it to me for about three years now,the lad just can't get it through his head that I don't want a .338. If you are interested E mail me I will make sure he still has it and get you his phone number.

2 shots, you can't go wrong with the VZ-24. As I understand it the Yugos are copies of the K98 intermediate action and not really suitable for this cartridge. Some of the Persian rifles were made in Czechoslovakia in the 30s but a lot of them were made in Iran. I'm not saying these wouldn't be strong enough for the 338-06 but I know the VZ-24 is. George
