.223 or .224 for .22 hornet?

I am picking up a lovely little Brno .22 Hornet- 1949 manufacture, but MINT- and see that there are various calibers for that projectile. Do you guys get the best accuracy with .223 or .224 projectiles?

You need to slug that barrel to find out which one to use. If it was US manufactured after WW2 it would be .224, pre war would be .223, foreign manufacture might be either one. Looking at the age of the rifle it's probably .223, and .223 would be the safe choice.

I highly recommend you don't do anything with that rifle till you find out for sure!

Hmmm...I would have thought .001 of an inch would only affect accuracy.. and I have no doubt that it has happilly fired all manner of factory loads, which do vary between .223 and .224. Norma is .224, Winchester is .223. .......

As it is here IN NZ, I doubt it would be US manufacture........

The Brno was made in Czechoslovakia at about the time the Russians took over the country, The issue of bullet size becomes important when handloading to max, the .224 bullet will develop more pressure if used in a .223 groove barrel.
