Hi all. Need some help with a good pin load. Using 231 and 225g lead flatpoints. Loaded a few rounds at 5.3g and functioned fine. Is this load stout enough to take the pins off of the table? Should I bump it up? To what?

Thanks,
Frank

faiello5,
I think that 5.3g of 231 is a little on the light side. The #12 Speer manual gives a starting load of 5.4 and a max of 6.0 of 231 for the 225g JHP. Velocity for the max load is only 787fps. I shoot a 230g JHP with WSF for a velocity of 844fps and it will do a nice job on a pin. If I were you I would go with a heaver bullet or a differant powder. Go to eGroups at www.egroups.com and get an the pinshooters list.

I'm ASSUMING that you're talking about the .45 ACP and not another semi-auto pistol cartridge, such as the 10mm or something exotic.

With that said, I shoot 230-gr. LRNs and use 5.7 (five point seven) grains of WW231. It takes pins off the table very nicely.

Chances are he knows how to use it.

Faiello5: I just shot my 3rd pin match (9 pin) last night and had very good effect with my 45ACP. I shot 200gr SWC with 5.7gr of Win231 which moves at 940-960 fps according to my chrono. Most other guys were shooting 230gr FMJ factory loads but my load seemed to have a little better effect on pins and recovery from recoil was a little faster too.
