BHP production years question

I am not all that big on the whole cast vs. forged issue and have little interest in the history of the hi-power, but I have a question about production years and serial numbers. When did the Mark II change over to the Mark III? I seem to recall that some people go nuts over hi-powers from the late eighties or thereabouts because (I think) the fit and finish of the hi-powers at that time was the best or something like that. Can anyone enlighten me on this? I recall posts on this or other boards about it. The reason is that a friend of mine has a hi-power with a "PN" serial number (1989 production) and I am interested in getting it if it is one of these "special" pistols. Not normally a stickler for these things, the price tag is one that can't be resisted if it is one of the years that seem to matter to some people. I am very tempted to buy it to see if there IS any truth to what people say. Stephen? Anyone?

Give this board a try. They have a lot of history stuff on it.

How the British Regulars fired and fled,
How the farmers gave them ball for ball,
From behind each fence and farmyard wall,
Chasing the redcoats down the lane,
Then crossing the fields to emerge again
Under the trees at the turn of the road,
And only pausing to fire and load.
