New Maverick

Howdy all,

Just went to my local Gart Sporting Goods store and found an awesome deal. Picked up the 26' barrel feild model Maverick 88 for $155 bucks out the door. Went in looking for a good 20" bbl HD shottie, but just couldn't pass that up. Does anyone know much about these? Shoots well and cycles smoothly. Made by Mossberg so still better than a cheap chinese jobby I suppose.

Thanks all, shoot safe.

I have one with a 28in. barrel and it is great. It isn't really made by mossberg, it is made from a subsidiary of mossberg which is still great because most parts are interchangeable with the mossberg guns. Great gun at a great price. Enjoy your new gun!

Basically a Mossberg 500

Many, parts are interchangable (including barrels I think).

I have a 28" Maverick. For my purposes, I've yet to find a shotgun that shoots better for me, even though it's a "cheapie."

I have a Maverick 88 I bought in 1990. Works just as well as any other. Really torques off my brothers that I have put as much game on the table as they have with their higher-priced Remmys.

I have also bought the 18-1/2" barrel from Mossberg. MSRP direct from Mossy is $74, last time i looked.

Thanks guys.

I'm glad to hear good stuff. I did find the 18 1/2' barrel at Cabela's for $69, but will be sticking with the 26" it came with. This is a good comfortable length for me when it comes to hunting, skeet, trap, and clays. For home defense I will be buying another gun for that specific purpose, which will have such things as ghost ring sights anda side saddle, to name a couple. Probably try to pick up another Maverick for the same price and convert it for the purpose. I really do like this gun. New knurled and extended choke tubes are on the way in modified and full, as well as tru-glo fiber optic front and rear. This will be a great GP gun until I get about buying the HD.

Freedom first, safety always.
