Question about scopes

My scopes' manufacturer say they have an adjustment range of 40-40

Wondering what that means, what does it mean adjustment range of 40-40, is it like I have a maximum I can adjust like up 40 MOA or what.

Most likely it means the scope has 40 MOA elevation travel and 40 MOA windage travel. Note that this is the total from end to end. If you are zeroed at say 100 yards with the adjustments centered, you only have 20 MOA of movement to get to longer range. Which is why you see scope bases with 20 MOA of taper.
