Does anyone remember the Grendel .22 mag. semi-auto pistol?

A collector friend showed me an interesting handgun the other day: a Grendel poly-framed semi-auto in .22 magnum. It had a number of interesting features but was ugly as hell.

They aren't made or imported any more, but I'm curious about it. Is anyone familiar with it? Any opinions about it?

Hello. I never owned or shot one, but heard that they were not reliable. I could be wrong, but that's all I can recall. Best.

I've seen them but never fired one. They came with a 30rnd magazine. This was before the laws banning common sense.

I had fortunately forgotten the Grendel until you mentioned it. As with most Grendel pistols it too was junk. Now I can forget about it again.

The one I shot worked fine, just very, very loud. As a rule the Grendel pistols were pretty bad but, oh yes, the big (no pun intended) but, their rifles were great.

Yeah, it was the 30 round magazine capacity that piqued my interest! The .22 magnum has some interesting properties. I wonder if Ruger could chamber the SP101 rimfire in the magnum chambering? If I recall correctly, the new .22 caliber developed by FN for military handgun use has ballistics very similar to the .22 rimfire magnum.

I bet the Grendel IS loud!

Don't laugh guys but I had 2 of those. They were very ammo sensitive but ones I had were very reliable with CCI HP ammo while Winchester HP were useless. It had terrible muzzle blast but almost no recoil. I once shot it in a indoor range with all lights off and with one particular ammo (I don't remember the brand) it looked like a flame thrower. I used to keep both pistols and several loaded spare mags in my sailboat during longer trips.

i own 2 of the p-30's one an early 3digit threaded barrel sn#. after dismantling these guns and staring at them for awhile, i found that with cleaning up the feed ramp. and bevelling it out alittle more, that they work fine. but mine prefer the winchester over the cci ammo. another problem was the plastic mag base plate lips are real flimsy. i only load mine to 20rds of 22mag. i am able to hit targets out to 150yds no problem. no if only someone would make 10rd mags for them. if you want to off one e-m me.

yeah I might have to remember to take mine to the range with me next time.

its ammo sensitive but its a blast to hand it to a friend and say something like "here shoot a clip through this" then watch them keep shooting and shooting and shooting and then look at you and ask "how many does this thing hold?"

They use to sell for $199.00 (~1992)at an indoor range I go to. I almost bought one, but never did.

Funny that you say that. I was looking at a pic in another thread and thinking to myself how kel-tec'sih it looked. The grips more so than anything.

I think only a handful of guns since, say 1990, have been "ugly". But you certainly are right in attaching that moniker to the Grendel. It really was UGLY!

Reminded me of a (ugly) plastic toy gun that somebody mutated with anabolic Hoppe's or something! Yuck!

Never shot one. Didn't want to handle it. It was the toad of guns in that I was afraid I may get warts after handleing it.

Sorry if I hurt any owners of this guns feelings. I know it's never good to say anybody's baby or gun is not beautiful.

Looks like the bastard love child of a Hi-point and a Kel-tec, with maybe a little bit of inbred Glock and HK in there. All in all, FUGLY.

The carbine version is very interesting.

If it were at all available, it seems like it could be a decent alternative to the PS90.

Aesthetics notwithstanding, a pistol about the size of a 1911-but lighter, that holds 31 rounds of .22 magnum is a damned neat gun. The P30 was way ahead of it's time. It's future was sealed with Clinton's "Assault Weapon Ban."
The guns handle suprisingly well.

I was looking around for info on the Grendel P-30 and ran across this forum. I had never heard of a Grendel firearm until a friend inhereted one a couple of months ago. He was going to sell it for $100. I thought that sounded pretty reasonable and told him I would take it. Then upon a little research to see if it was worth anything near the $100, I found that Holy Crap, it is worth closer to $700. I called my friend and told him not to be in any hurry to sell his gun and sure as hell don't sell it for $100.
If anyone is interested, it is in very good condition, has the plastic case and 2 clips. I don't think it has been fired much. I'm not much on gun knowledge but I can put you in touch with him.

The only gun kaboom I ever saw right up close was when my buddy Jerry had one partially disassemble itself at the range. Ugly as homemade sin, but reasonably accurate. Icky trigger. I like the caliber for a woods gun.
