I sent them an email last week requesting some info on my newly acquired M500 12g riot gun. Hard to track down serial numbers on Mossbergs, they have produced so many. Anyway, the gun was built between 1977-1982. Higher grade military/LE construction (so they say!) than their civilian guns, more real steel and less pot metal and plastic. Anyway, I bought some triple 000 buck and tried her out. A bucking bronco to say the least!! Now for the good part, I tracked down a 28" VR fixed Mod barrel for the gun. Perfect for 16 yard ATA, that's American trap talk...

here it is with the 28" VR Mod barrel I found on eBay. Make a great miscellaneous style target gun...

My dad has the same gun, it's functioned flawlessly for over 30 years. Nice find.
