Hi everyone, Is a K98 Mauser action long enough to handle 8mm Remington Magnum without extensive modifications? How about the 338 Remington Ultra Mag? Does anyone know if chambering reamers are available for the new 7mm or 338 Rem Ultra mags? Thinking about that next rifle project, probably for elk. Have a 1942 K98 barrelled action laying around in 8mm-06 and wanted something i wouldn't have to fireform brass for.... Thanks, Mike |

Doctary, the K98's mag box will handle anything 3.315" or shorter without lengthening. I know it has to be altered for the 8mm Rem Mag (3.60") but I don't have the lengths for the others on hand. George

I form the brass for my 8mm-06 by running it through the sizer all you are doing is opeaning the neck from .308 to .323 no need to fire form. If you just gotta have a mag you may want to look at the 8mm-338 the dies are available from RCBS and the reamer from Clymer, and you can use your old barrel.I am building one and I think I can get by without srteaching the magazine box if I stick to bullets in the 150-170 gr. range.
