M1 carbine slide identification/type

I had picked up a universal m1 for all around plinking and i noticed the slide looks different than photos of others i have seen. It doesnt have that flat spot on the top where the slide curls over the receiver like most usgi slides. Is this some kind of repro? I cant see any markings but i have not removed the slide completely yet to check everywhere. tia

Universal did not use USGI parts in their guns. They sourced their parts from a variety of places, but none of them surplus.

It does, however, look like a USGI oprod. Universal oprods are usually thinner and have a cutout where the right side bolt lug rides in the channel.

On top is a Universal, below is a Plainfield Machine (mostly GI parts)

its an early universal/low serial #. I am trying to add usgi parts to this where i can. So far i have identified the trigger housing ( markings ; standard products) and some things like hammer, mag catch etc.. I guess i just dont wanna replace this slide if it is already usgi quality. I think i could replace the bolt too. I might just leave the barrel (non-usgi) since it has such strong rifling. And maybe leave the receiver on, usgi receivers are pricy and at least it seems like quality/milled.

Early Universals used GI spec parts. The later the Universal model, the fewer GI parts used.
