has anyone loaded the hornady 150gr interlock bullets with imr 3031 i would like to know what charge worked the best for 100 yds.

Well, assuming you are talking about 150gr interlock round nose, hornadys manual says 26.6-31.4 for imr 3031, with an COAL of 2.550".... Knowing what charge worked best in someone else's gun does you no good. If there was a "best" charge for each combo, we wouldn't need a range of safe powder weights, we would just need the "best" listed one in the book....

OTOH if you are talking about 150gr interlock SP's, if its a levergun, forget it. Spitzer bullets dont work in a levergun. Even discounting magazine detonations which may or may not be a true problem, you have to load the pointed bullets too far into the case to get the correct OAL to function in the gun that the ogive starts below the case mouth, which means you not only dont have a cannelure to crimp into, which is an absolute requirement for tube mag guns, but you dont even have any BULLET to crimp into....

If its for a single shot, assuming you have a long enough throat, it should work using the recipe above.

If you're talking about new IMR 3031, about 29 grains. Hogdgon data shows a starting charge of 28.7 to a max of 30.5. Personally, I've long used 29.0 grains of 3031 for the .30-30 cartridge. It's a load that's always worked for me.

This hobby doesn't work that way, what may work well in your rifle may not group in mine. I happen to load 150gr hornady interlocks for my grandson using 30.0gr IMR3031, this is a near max load and groups well in his rifle. Start low and work up, it's wise to develope your own load for your rifle. William

thanks for that info i no that all guns will be different i just loaded 8mm with the lee manual and had some bad results until i joined here and got some good advice. these will be the first of the 30-30 iv done so was just kinda looking for a good place to start and comparing that to the lee manual. also these bullets are the 150 gr interlock rn so will these be ok in a lever gun? iv only been loading for about year so i still have much to learn. thanks for all the advice.

Hornady makes a couple of 150 grain interlock bullets in .30 caliber. For the .30-30, the round nose bullet is the standard, for all sorts of good reasons. If you're trying to load the spire point, stop, back up, and start again.

For the .30-30, the bullet you want is the .308, 150 grain Interlock RN, item #3035. If you're thinking of using spire point bullets, think again.

i used the round nose 150gr i made 5 each of 27gr 28gr 29gr 30gr and 31gr in imr3031 and all fired fine thanks for the help with that.
