Need help finding out about this OLD one...

The better halfs father gave this shotgun to me last X-Mas as he know i have a few guns. The 16g double barrel also came with a letter from the armeror stating it was a 16g shot gun taken from a german soldier and was being allowed to be brought to the US. My problem is i cannot find out any thing about the maker and year. the barrel has 50 cent size rust spots that once I got it I oiled it down to stop more rusting. I'm afraid to clean ot up as it may lower the value. anyone the has a idea please look at the picks and share a story with me.

Neat shotgun.

I think your instinct not to mess with it is a good one. Rubbing it down with a cloth and some oil every once in a while for preservation's sake will also remove some of the rust eventually. The finish won't return, but at least it won't get any worse.

How does the bore look?

Googled this. This is an O/U that appears to be from the same company.

Dis-mount the barrel...

anf look at the frame surface and the flat barrel surface for marks there.
if you see a 65mm, the chamber are short 2-9/16" may see possible year.
Current 16ga., ammo is a little stiff for it may need to load milder loads for it.

Try www.16ga.com for more info.
