I found some proof marks or maker's marks on the old J. Bishop Rifle in my last post.A friend showed me an article in a magazine on the Old Brown Bess and it showed some of the regiment markings the english used on the "Bess".I did not know that what looked like pits on the top of the barrel were actually some sort of makers mark until I cleaned them up a little. I would apreciate it if anyone could Give me some info on these markings or tell me where I can find a book or web site on them. The pics are at this link--- http://members.aol.com/cplane460/proof.jpg/ http://members.aol.com/cplane460/proof1.jpg/ http://members.aol.com/cplane460/proof2.jpg/
