.300 Savage kills again!

Yesterday, I bagged an outstanding buck whitetail with my .300 Savage Model 99. Over 200 pounds, an extraordinarily heavy rack, and mature...probably about 5 or 6 years old. Nonetheless, he dropped where he stood with a single shot. Let no one doubt, the .300 Savage Model 99 is the finest deer rifle in all history.

Congratulations!

But tell us more... what load did you use, and what was the range to the prize?

Sad to see this one go into history. Are there any new rifles still made for it?

Loads for my TC .309 JDJ & Rem M7 (w/18.5" bbl) are 165s right at 2400 fps ... right in there for The Savage or .30-40 Krag.

Kills stuff all day long. Other than the bigger stuff that likes to quickly bite back, I'd use it for anything on the continent (this continent, not The Continent ).

Decent bullet in the right spot & things die.
