It would help. I know the Factory load by Goex is 37 grs Black. I know that
they use a drop tube.

Getting that couple of extra grains in there with a drop tube won't make much difference unless shooting from a rifle.

Ok, maybe i was a bit vague in my question. I was under the impression that a drop tube insured proper compaction of the powder. Is that wrong"? Or is in only important in larger rounds?

Uniform distribution never hurts, and uniform settled distribution is best of all.

I've never understood the religion about "drop tubes" when two seconds vibrating the case when you pick it up with something akin to a cheap pencil engraver completely settles the powder column better than anything else.

Any good Walgreens will have the correct thing:

It's in "Family Planning" and is called a, err... "Personal Massager".

Uhh.... Who would have known?

Because a drop tube is the way it's always been done.

It's called 'multi-tasking'. Don't get them mixed up, however; there are some places black powder just doesn't belong.

I'm afraid that if I bought one of those, wearing my hat real low and glancing around hiding my face, the scanner wouldn't pick up the price and then the cashier would hollerPRICE CHECK ON PERSONAL MASSAGER REGISTER ONE!!! on the store PA.

If that happens just put your big girl panties on and deal with it.

If I recall correctly, black powder is an excellent fertilizer...

Yep, if I went into Walgreens wearing girl panties, I recon I would be ready for any farther humiliation.
But then, why should I care what the gal behind the register thinks about me, with her black lipstick, shaved head, tattoos, and pierced tongue.

If you try to pour 40 grains FFFg GOEX into a 45 Colt casing the powder will spill over therefore "when you pick it up" it will not have your 40 grains of powder in it. If you use a drop tube then you can get the 40 grains of FFFg powder in deep enough to used a compression plug to compress it to your desired depth.

All I did is pour it straight out of the can into the case.
(Another of those 1,000-word summaries)

40 grains, vibrated 1 second:

I took look at how much Goex FFFg powder ends up in a .45 Colt case if you free pour powder into the casing then use the straight edge of a business card to level it off flush to the top of the casing. After numerous pours using this technique (then averaging) I ended up with 39.8 grains of powder. Of course in this scenario there is no room to get the bullet started as the powder is flush with the top of the case.

Using my Lee Powder-Thru-Expanding-Die with the drop tube affixed to it as pictured 40 grains of powder settles into the casing in a similar fashion as you've pictured. No need to vibrate the powder as the casing mouth is expanded and then charged at the same time with the same die setup.

Different techniques with similar results is what makes BP loading sooo much fun.
