Sig Sauer Scorpion 1911

I'm mulling over getting a full sized Scorpion. They can be had for a great price these days, especially considering all the included features such as the night sights, ambi safety, and mag well.

Does anyone have any experience with these or any sig 1911 for that matter?

I have no trouble finding bad reviews about these guns online, so I hope to hear from some people with good things to say... but if you have had trouble with yours or a friends I'd still like to hear about it.

I shot a Sig Nightmare full sized 1911 a few months back and I loved it!!! The guy said he paid a little over $1000 for it. I remember joking with him that I'd buy it from him for $800 and now I'm finding them for about $800 on gunbroker!

The scorpion is my main concern.

The first 1911 I bought after a LONG hiatus was a Sig Tacops 1911. It is the ONLY 1911 I have that has never hiccupped. It is a well built pistol. My daughter liked it so much that I gave it to her. It has never failed for her either.

A friend of mine has one. I have fired it and cleaned it. Seems like a quality piece. No issues with it that I recall. Checkering was reaonably sharp, fitting was decent accuracy was acceptable. I'm sure he would buy it again. I think he paid $900ish for it. Trigger was on the heavy side I believe it has the external extractor (not a fan myself), it's been awhile since I've shot it.

I own a Sig 1911 C3. I am 100% satisfied with it--carry it concealed sometimes. It's accurate, totally reliable, and good looking.

Well. I just won a full sized Scorpion on gun broker!

I'll cross my fingers and hope for THE BEST!

It's brand new... after shipping it will cost me $767.00

After it gets to my FFL I'll spend $75.00 or more in the store to wave my transfer fee (they have some good deals on ammo I like, so it's really like getting a free transfer). Then I have to pay the bs Colorado $10.00 state fee... and I'll be out the door for $777.00

What do you guys think?

I have some experience with a friend's Scorpion Commander size.

It's well put together for a production gun and shoots accurately. My friend hasn't had any problems with it after several thousand rounds.

I think you did well but I'll wait for your range report. How's the .45 ammo situation in Colorado? (I'd think if I was an FFL I'd make sure to have a box or two of ammo to sell to someone that was buying a gun from or thru me.)

I had a trade offer for a full sized scorpion that I was considering. I really like the looks of them, but I did some research and found a LOT of reported issues with the scorpions. Things that weren't able to be resolved after multiple trips back to the factory... so I was a little turned off.

If I knew it was going to work, I'd get it in a heartbeat.

We've got 45 acp available. Walmart is usually the better price, but it's gone up a lot since last year. I think it's around $23.00 a box of 50 now!!! Too much! I wont pay that.

My thoughts exactly! I don't think a better deal exists on this gun. I talked to the seller today and it sounds like he didn't make much money on this sale.

Well buddy... I finally bought a Sig! Ha! This is my first one, although it doesn't count much being a 1911. If someone was trying to trade theirs to you I'd say you probably made the right choice by opting out. They may have been trying to get rid of it due to malfunctions. Unless it was NIB, then who knows.

I've read enough bad reviews to be skeptical, but the stars seemed to have aligned for me on this one, so I have faith in my purchase. Also I went hunting for good reviews and there are a lot of people out there with the same gun who have had no problems. I think my chances of this being a good one are high.
I could start getting into the finish and finding a holster that will fit and not ruin the finish, but I think I had better wait on that and just shoot the gun first.
I wont be able to pick it up till first thing in November, so a week or so after that you all should be hearing back from me on how I like it.

I got a Scorpion 1911 last year as part of a unit deployment buy. I've shot a few hundred rounds through it and have never experienced any problems whatsoever, shooting both factory (maybe 100) and reloads (probably 3-400 by now). It is more accurate than I can shoot, and it has the best trigger of any handgun that I own. The grips are quite agressive, though, so those with sensitive hands may find gloves helpful, although they don't bother me much. I paid around $900 for mine, but that was after all the engraving and such. it seems to have much closer tolerances than my Colt M1991A1, and shoots better also. a real fun gun for the range.

I have been shooting for many years.
My best pistol is an M&P with a Trijicon RMR.
I practice with it frequently.

I bought a scorpion from a friend who I know and trust. It never jammed with him or me.

My first rounds at 15 yards were more accurate with the scorpion with night sights than the M&P.

This one will never be for sale.

Go for it if you can get it for a good price. I have the 1911 full size Tacops. Over 1k rounds so far with zero issues. Very accurate and great trigger. First time out I was hitting golf balls at 10 yards consistently....45 acp really makes them fly. Lots of fun, POI dead on with 230g lead. Fit and finish is excellent. For $700 (with 6 mags and a pistol bag - summer promotion) it was an absolute steal.

Have a Sig Scorpion which was purchased in 2012. Since then, it has been used extensively in USPSA matches and general grins & giggles shoots. Routinely shoot two USPSA matches each month with an average round count of 175 to 200 rounds per match. I'll let you do the math.

The Scorpion is a well made 1911 which has proven to be extremely reliable. Do not believe that you will go wrong by getting one.

In full size Sigs, my husband has the Scorpion and XO 1911's and I've got the STX. They are all great guns and shoot accurately without any issues for us.
Shooting the Scorpion and STX side by side, you can't tell any difference between the two.
Congrats on your purchase. I think you will be pleased.

I have the SIG 1911 MAXM and the 1911 Target. Both are accurate and operate well. I hadn't done any .45 ACP shooting for 60+ years, except an occasional round through friends' guns. As a kid I'd fired a lot of military 45s, never cared for the safety in the grip. Just had an urge to own and shoot a 1911 .45 ACP. Have had good experience with SIGs, so I bought the 1911 Target. Must be habit forming, followed up with the MAXM. The MAXM has the better trigger, EGW parts? Still prefer 9mm for most of my pistol shooting, but those 45s will be getting a lot of use.
