S&W M&P extractor

Okay I bought the Apex extractor but I cannot get the pin out that holds the extractor in the slide to remove the old one. I was told it should go out from top to bottom. When I try to tap it out all the pin punches start to bend.
I am stuck. Any body have any ideas.

Judging from this discussion on brianenos' forum, they are a terror to remove.
But here's how they did it.
