A Good Choice??

Been in the market for a new pistol, and recently purchased a
Springfield XD40 service model. Other than a couple small caliber pocket
semi's, (that jam after every 3rd shot) this is my first true
semi-auto. Shopped around a little, and handled a few, and the XD just "felt"
good in my hand. Read both good and bad reviews about this gun.
Anyone have thier own personal pros & cons about this gun? Haven't gotten a chance to get out and shoot it yet, but boy am I looking forward to it.
Guess I just need some validation for making the purchase.

Some folks swear by them. I had 4 XD's and sold them all. Even Springfield couldn't fix their accuracy issues - they all grouped like a shotgun.

I guess they are a good entry level piece and fill that niche' well, and they're certainly a step up from the Taurus. If you don't shoot much, you'll likely be pleased...

While I don't currently own one, I've owned 3 in the past (9mm, .40 & .45 compact). The only problem I ever had with any of them was the .45 not being able to feed semi wad-cutters reliably. Other than that they were very reliable and accurate. The only thing I don't like about the XD's is the grip safety. If they made a XDm without the grip safety I'd buy one.

You did fine. You don't need us to validate your purchase. Just go out and shoot it.

Meanwhile, listen to Handgun Podcast on "why the XD sucks", and read the accompanying forum thread. Eric Shelton's tongue is firmly in cheek. He is not attacking the XD, he's attacking fanboyism.

Now, go get some more magazines and a decent holster.

If you like is is all that matters. I have two Springfields - an XD9SC and an XD40SC, and I love them both. Nice feel, totally reliable, and accurate. My wife has a v.10 .45 ACP that she loves. I've shot the XDm, and I love that, too! The XD9SC beat out my beloved Steyr S40 as my concealed carry weapon.

what'd I buy? Wasn't till reading the forum that it brought it all into perspective.
I guess the bottom line is find what most fits your needs as a shooter,
and if you like it and it works for you that's all that matters.
I'll find out how well it works for me once I get her out to the range.

I owned a perfect XD9 service. Sold it to buy the newer XDm9. Also perfect. Accuracy it excellent and not a single hiccup. Plus 19+1 capacity, SAs customer service reputation and a lifetime warranty. What's not to like?
